WINDOWS 7 OR 8.1?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I'm going to build a $750 gaming PC. This question has been in my head since the second I made the list of components I wanted. Windows 7 or Windows 8.1? I love windows 7 and have no problem with it, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be outdated before 8 or I will have compatibility problems with 7 in the future. Windows 8 is known to have hate because of metro etc. I have found a program that really makes me think that I want Windows 8 because it gets rid of all of the problems that I'm pretty sure windows 8 has. The program is called StartIsBack and the guys at Tek Syndicate have made a video on it. Windows does look more pleasing aesthetically in my eyes and with StartIsBack, I'm pretty sure I will enjoy windows 8 as much as I did 7, but I'm not 100% sure. Also, if any of you guys have StartIsBack please list problems with it.

Personally, 7. 8 series is a screw-up even though its lighter and even though they brought back the start button

Windows 8.1 hands down.

No sense in going backwards unless you already own it.

Also, pirating is bad. Technet evaluation copies for life! :D

Just go with windows 8.1. It is illogical to go with an older OS unless you have compatibility issues (which with a new build you will not).

I personally use ClassicShell over StartisBack, but wither will do the job (job being using a start menu instead of metro)

Stardock makes some legit software that disables it. It's what I use and love it, cant go a day without.

There are several out there that make software to do it. All personal preference really.

For people buying it for the first time, whatever's cheaper so 8.1 I think.

-If you can get heavy discounts, 7

-If you have an old pc somewhere you should attempt to call Microsoft and have em transfer the license to your new rig.

-If you're not going to bother to call Microsoft but still exercise your right to use a license you already own then whatever you want (btw this is my helpful justification for you so you don't get in trouble for openly saying you're going to pirate it, under those narrow circumstances (you already have a valid license) it's sort of ok)

And for the record, let's not kid ourselves here: SteamOS beta it's not really quite a viable option yet and most people who opt for "No OS" are intimidated and wouldn't bother overall with Linux, so whenever I see most stores like NCIX offer a "No OS" option if a definitive "don't ask, don't tell" policy that implies "We know you're pirating it or using a grey area option"

Personally Windows 7 for me. I have Windows 8.1 installed on my old rig so I can play around with it, but I don't like it.

I'm going to assume that Windows 9 will be what I want, so I'll wait for that.

Metro is amazing actually.

Well it all depends on the person, the amount of people that hate it are far greater than the amount of people that like it.

The amount of people that refuse to find use in Metro is greater than those that already have.

I'm not dealing with passengers on the hate train today. Find the exit and get off or don't irritate me for no reason.

Yeah because they've been force fed the OS with virtually every new PC system sold, not because they necessarily like it.

The only people who prefer 7 over 8.1 are ones who haven't used 8.1 long enough. Or dislike the issues with it. Furthermore, the metro stuff can be circumvented.

Win 8.1 is only a hassle for your first few startups, really. Once you load the thing up you'll set the desktop screen to appear by default and you'll pin everything you need on a regular basis to the task bar and then it's like the live tiles aren't even there. I got used to it in a few hours and it hasn't bugged me since.

It's a shame that you have to put in effort to make it work like Win7, but it's not too bad once it's set up.

Git Gud.

I bought 8 knowing Metro and all the hate and I still liked it. People are too ignorant to give it a try without whining the entire damn time.
