Best laptop for under $1000 USD

I know, generic title blah blah blah. But my friend wants a laptop for under 1000 bucks. He plays on his iMac or whatever the AIO Mac PC is and he needs a laptop. What options does he have? He plays video games, so I suppose it could be a gaming laptop, but it can't pump out lava or be ~400 degrees C.

Ridiculously long battery life, 750m, 8 gigs of ram, 1080p and perfectly fits the budget

It's also portable!

What about the SLI GT750M y510p?

sli has micro stutter issues and y510p gets pretty damn hot. other than that it's an okay laptop. y50 is much better version though definitely worth a little more.

7hours is possible with ulv proccesor. But it's not nearly as powerful and has a useless dvd drive.

if it's a i5 4200M it's fine. the i5 4200H (nvm 4200H is good too) and i5 4200U are pretty slow.

M and H are both good. I just confused the H for a slow one. U is slow.

I'm a little late to the party, but the i5-4200H is a hyperthreaded dual core, if that helps.

The Lenovo Y50 and the Asus G550JK that were suggested are both pretty good choices. The Lenovo(with the i5) will have a stronger GPU while the Asus will have a better GPU. Aside from that, I can't think of too many other differences aside from the fact that the Asus has an IPS panel while the Lenovo has that small SSD (SSHD?). I'd probably wait until the Asus gets released and then see if people have problems with temperatures or anything, because right now there isn't much information on it.

So a HT dual core will have the same performance as a quad core? Anyway my friend is waiting until the end of the summer to get a laptop so he can wait for the Asus laptop which may have a more powerful GPU variant. The G550JK looks noice!!!!

Well, the hyperthreaded dual core will be better than a regular dual core, but not as good as a regular quad core (although, come to think of it, I don't think Intel has any regular quad-core mobile CPUs, just hyperthreaded ones)

But regardless, given the budget your friend has, it should be a decent enough CPU.
