CPU: AMD FX-8320
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14
Motherboard: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0
Memory: Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB (2x4GB) - 2133MHz 10-12-11-28-1T
SSD: x2 Sandisk Ultra Plus 124GB - RAID 0
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X (At stock due to heat of room in summer)

I am considering selling my FX-8320 and M5A99FX to a friend who is purchasing a PC quite soon (He will give me a generous price), I will then purchase a G3258 and a Maximus VI Hero (May tone down). Sometime next year I plan on upgrading to an i7 due to video editing at that time. My computer is for heavy gaming along with things like internet browsing, skype, etc. I play mainly Counterstrike GO and Infestation (WarZ). Is it worth doing this?

A Pentuim and the Maximus Hero? I swear, ASUS needs to get rid of that fucking thing, it's so useless for the money. Get the Pentuim and a good CHEAP Z97 board.

I'd say stick with your current cpu and mobo. I'd explain why in depth but effort so I'll summarize it as this; you'll be able to go broadwell next year but if you buy an overpriced motherboard now you wont be able to go broadwell next year without taking a big loss. You won't be able to go DDR4 & it doesn't sound like your having issues with the performance of your cpu.

Why!? The 8320 is completely capable of handling all of that...

The FX 8320 doesn't cut it for games like Arma II & III, Infestation, etc. For games like CSGO it's fine. My friend is purchasing a PC quite soon and will give me a more generous price for it. I may tone down the motherboard. At the moment I'm not required to video edit, in a few months I will be hence the i7.

omg so many topics on 4xxx-8xxx amd cpu vs pentium. stick what you have people imo.

Unfortunately, people see it hanging with the i7 in some games and think they can get the same performance as an i7 in all applications for $80.

I wouldn't even consider the Pentium over the 8320.

Could you explain why, I stated that at the moment it will be only required for gaming. It would be naive to expect something like that.

I just saw your other post saying you'll be going to an i7 later and your friend is buying the other PC, if that's the case then for sure get the Pentium as a cheap stop gap.

That was exactly what I was thinking. Right now what is required of my PC is solely gaming which I feel the Pentium would serve me better. In 6 months or so I will then upgrade to an i7 when it is required (Video editing)

right? 8320 will beat the shit out of the pentium for any video/photo work or if you want to get into streaming on twitch.

Which I am not doing, solely gaming is what is required of my CPU. In six months or so when my PC is required for video editing an i7 will be purchased. As another user said, the Pentium is a cheap stop gap as I will get a genrous price for the components I'm selling.

yeah but wasting 70 bucks on a cpu for six months for a very small gain isn't worth it when you can just keep that 70 and buy a better cpu cooler for your next cpu in six months.

My NH-D14 is more than adequate, noise was a big factor to me when purchasing it. The whole reason I want to purchase it now is due to the generous prices for my motherboard and CPU.

Whats up with this g3258 hype, linus makes a video I see everyone wanting to upgrade their 8320 to it.

Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VII HERO ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($208.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $283.98
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Why would you pay 280$ for that instead of this:

Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC MATE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($95.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $334.97
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Was thinking exactly the same thing.  Just hope it doesn't disappoint a lot of people.

or just grab the Xeon E3-1230V3, and a cheap Z97 board, for eventualy sli support, if that is an important feuture for you. its just an i7-4770 without the igpu. but still it offers 4 cores 8 Threads, for an i5 price.

Still i agree, that basicly his current FX8320 is better for video editng, but yeah okay :)
