Android "L" (updating)

Rafy

Design:

There are 5,000 new APIs.
There are new icons here....
We'll be able to download it later for dev devices.
It's "one consistent vision" for mobile, desktop, and web.
"What if pixels didn't have color, but depth?"
The design language is called "Material Design."
It's colorful and simple.
It's not as dark and foreboding as Holo, but not as transluscent as iOS.
Developers can specify an "elevation value" for anything in the UI.
There's a mix of straight, boxed lines, round buttons, and bright colors.
A new feature is called "pallete," which lets developers automatically figure out the colors in images and match their UI.
The Roboto font has been updated to work on every screen
Material surfaces respond to physics like card stock
But there's also rich, animated touch feedback.
Developers will be able to animate how stuff can move between screens.
It animates at 60FPS. On the web.
the notification pane and the lock screen are basically combined.

User Experience:
There's a new lock system. It's called "personal unlocking."
You can set up locations, Bluetooth devices, or your voice as "trusted" so you don't have to enter your PIN.
Google search results on the web itself can use this new design language.
It's moving and animating stuff on the screen as he scrolls. It's happening at 60FPS.
Recents  is a stacked card interface for apps and web pages
Any app can toss multiple items into this recents area.
Chrome tabs are now listed in the recents view instead of just inside Chrome
Inside Google Search, you can tap directly into the app.
This is now open to any Android app developer now
Apps can also provide app suggestions for auto complete on search.
New Keyboard,UI, do not disturb, and new quick settings.

Performance:
runs exclusively on the Android Runtime, ART.
It's twice as fast as the old runtime, Dalvik.
Developers shouldn't have to make any big changes to work with ART.
ART is also better at "garbage collection" inside apps.
ART also is better about managing RAM and it's fully 64-bit compatible.
Android Extension Pack: It supports graphic bits like tesselation, geometry shaders, and other things that matter to gaming developers.
Project Volta: the goal of optimizing every subsystem in Android for battery life.
There's a new battery saver mode.

Security:
Google will push security patches through Google Play instead of Android updates fromuit now (Not exclusive to L)
Samsung Contributes Knox fully to Android

Business:

Office natively supported on Google Docs editing apps.
Work and Personal phones can be incorporated in one device!

SDK and early system images for Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 going up tomorrow.

You can try out the new UI here: http://www.polymer-project.org/apps/topeka/

It's Lollypop!

The stone cannot know why the chisel cleaves it; the iron cannot know why the fire scorches it. When thy life is cleft and scorched, when death and despair leap at thee, beat not thy breast and curse thy evil fate, but thank the Builder for the trials that shape thee.

I like the look of some of it but also hate the look of some of it.

Nice Google. I did see an image on iDownloadblog and the lock screen now looks remarkably similar to what iOS 7 already looks like...

I like the colours and the fact that they are pushing for a unified look and feel but I really wish they would let you chose a blacked out mode. As it is, it is much too bright for my eyes.

I don't really play many games for gameplay anymore honestly. I play most games just for the graphics.
