Stock is fine for non overclocking, if you insist on getting an after market for swag points then a 212 evo would get you the most value for your money.

If you won't OC it doesn't really matter, i think the stock one will be sufficient. And getting a better cooler will not increase performance unless you OC.

If you do get a hyper 212 evo i would recommend looking into over clocking.

Spoiler

Case Bitfenix Ghost, Mobo Asus Maximus VIII Ranger, CPU i7 6700K @4.2 Ghz cooled by Arctic cooling Freezer i30, (barely). GPU Nvidia GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 @1519Mhz core, RAM 16Gb Crucial Ballistix CL16 @2400Mhz. SSD 128GB Sandisk Ultra Plus as my OS drive. HDD's  1TB  Seagate ST31000524AS its OEM, 3TB Seagate Barracuda, 2x 500GB WDC Blue (RAID 0)

If it isn't working absolutely perfectly, according to all your assumptions, it is broken.

Didn't notice that there was no K, anyway my recommendation still stands, if you are getting a great cooler you should make proper use of it. And since OP can't OC i would recommend just saving the money.

Unless noise is s problem i don't see the point (i can't remember if the stock is loud or not, i haven't used it).

Otherwise it is up to the OP, i made my point.

It's all preference, if your case has a window then you don't want a shitty stock heat sink, it would defeat the purpose of having a side panel window, some people don't want there PC's to look like shit.

Actually, I know a very good situation where a non overclocked i5 would need a aftermarket cooler.

A friend of mine has the r4 and uses silent fans and has 780 twinfrozer. It's pretty silent, but when he starts doing something a bit more intensive, surer as heck the stock cooler starts making noise that is very loud compared to the other parts.

Stock coolers - The sound of bare minimum

Isn't lower temps and noise already making good use for cheap aftermarket cooler? Personally I would get aftermarket cooler anyway. No point paying $15 for stock cooler when you can get 212 for $30. I've build system which has aftermarket cooler and isn't oc'd, mainly because mobo doesn't allow it.

The sound problem is literally case specific, if he uses headphones or not and so on. Yes better temps also help make the CPU last longer, but there is no guarantee that the CPU will fail because of the stock cooler.

Don't get me wrong, i prefer aftermarket coolers myself. But as far as i know he already has a cooler that came with the I5, here he has a chance to save that money and get a better GPU or SSD. One can always get a new component later (the cooler), but you cannot pay 30$ more and have your GPU's performance just magically increase without selling the old one (at a loss) and then buying the new one.

Is my explanation sufficient now?

Aska Venom Voodo keeps my i5 4670k clocked @ 4.2Ghz 56C even when running BF4 on ultra

You are probably best running a stress test as BF4 isnt even that hard to run :) A stress test gives a better indication of temps.
