New Video Ideas for Linus and his Crew

So I have a new idea for a potential thread of videos for Linus Media Group.

When you guys do a review of a new video card, or CPU (really any piece of performance based hardware) you almost always end with "Choose the video card that fits your needs for the games and programs you use".  Yet you only show us 1-3 games that we might play.  Not only that we don't see a "building on" of these programs and games.

What I would like: A thread of videos that makes computer builds for specific games.  A good starting point would be "Computer build for StarCraft", then maybe "Computer build for League of Legends", and continuing on with other popular titles.  We seen a small video on WatchDogs lately but it was also more about comparing different video cards too so it wasn't quite as specific as I would like to see.

Maybe it could go like this:

1. StarCraft is a game that demands xxx from your machine.  (tons of CPU horsepower) And it doesn't scale very well across many CPU cores, so high powered low number of cores would be a better option.  (maybe even go in depth and say that StartCraft only uses 2 cores so getting anything more than a 3-4 core would be overkill and fairly pointless)

2. StarCraft really isn't that demanding of a game, so you might want to buy xxx accessories.  Maybe instead of buying a GeForce 780Ti and a $10 USB mouse, get a 770 and a $50 programmable mouse (because StarCraft isn't going to do any better on a 780Ti vs a 770 because of other complications) and you will like having this flexibility and utility rather than the horsepower.

...

...

...

10. Then we get to a final PC build that runs StarCraft perfectly on a nice easy budget.

Not only would this be a huge crowd to follow these videos, it would potentially open up new sponsorship opportunities that us as viewers would be excited about seeing.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

The problem with this is that they will fragment their viewer base, which is kind of a bad idea.

If they just did it for the hugely popular multiplayer titles they wouldn't be very frequent, those games tend to have a long lifespan.

Also another idea for another day is revisiting hardware after several driver releases.  Cause we all know when a new video card drops give it 3-4 driver updates and it is legit 20% better with like half of the problems we had before hand.  And so many of the videos done today are within a few days of launch (if not before).

Thats basicly what the forums are for. You can post to new builds what you are buying and ask for recommendations. Or you can list components and games in PC gaming and get good view on what settings and fps you will get. Now they have maybe 5 AAA titles that are less than year old. Running test loop on each games on each piece of hardware takes time. Are you suggesting making infinite number of videos to cope every major game release? Or shorter videos just suggesting same stuff games list as recommended hardware?

I do not think that is a good idea and is a little bit TOO specific

I am asking for maybe 5-8 minute videos that tell us about the programs and what we should look for in those programs.  The reason why I am SUGGESTING this is simply because they always end videos saying things like "Hey you should really buy a PC for what your doing" but yet never go on to explain those programs out.  I think starting off with a StarCraft video would be a GREAT place, I know Slick has a nack for the game so it would be a simple starting point, and I know TONS of people here play it.  Then maybe once Star Citizen launches there could be a build for that.

And as far as asking the community, I could ask "How many cores does xxx game use" and I guarantee I will get 5 different answers, along with 5 different CPUs to pick from, none of which have "science" behind them.

So basicly you want video telling what is needed to

- photoediting

- video editing

- streaming

- CPU heavy games

- CPU heavy games

- poorly optimized games

right? I can understand need for that. But problem still is that you can't go too specific. Every game/software is different. You have certain basics as more cores is better for streaming and more GHz is better for gaming etc. Thats why you get 5 different answers to one question. But there are always users who post explanations with suggestions and you can encourage that kind of posting when starting topic.

No I want them to be pretty exactly specific.  A "Build Guide for StarCraft" or maybe a "Build Guide for Adobe CSS".  And while I write this I am watching the "Ultimate 4k build guide"  *woot* definitely the right track.
