Is there a channel on youtube that educates me about car stuff. Like linus, but for cars.

 

I'm about to purchase my first car, a gen 1 miata, I've always loved cars but never really learnt about the detail on maintenance, knowing what problems the car has etc..

Yes, he is hilarious. In fact his miata review is one of the reason im getting mine.

 

but unfortunately he doesn't go into detail about car buying and maintenance, no car tips.

I am a mechanic by trade, and honestly that is going to be an old car and likely give you troubles. My best advice is find one that has a detailed service and maintenance history. Test drive it good for a few miles take it on a bumpy road, smooth road, accel hard, accel slow, brake hard, brake slow and while you do these things listen for noises, clunks, creaks, squeaks, grinding, moaning, etc. Pop the hood and check all the fluids level and condition this can be a good indicator of the owers care for the vehicle. Check the tires for good tread. Make sure none of the cluster lights are illuminated while driving as well as make sure the lights come on with the key on engine off the are meant to do what is called a bulb test. So if the check engine light does not come on that is a red flag. Which could mean the seller is trying to hide a costly repair. Lastly the best thing youy can do for instance in my state we require a safety and emissions inspection befor you can get your plates. Take the vehicle to an auto shop that you trust and ask them if it passes in your state or have them look it over it shhouldn't cost you more than 100 dollars  but it is well worth the money because it may save you giant headaches and give you some bartering room.
