Mario Kart 8 gets Free Mercedes DLC in Japan

The Japanese Mario Kart 8 owners will get to use a Mercedes GLA in game for free!  We've seen ads in games before like the Pizza Hut code in Everquest and the Subway ads in Counter Strike.  This kind of takes product placement to a new level.

 

Mercedes-Benz is now a part of the Mushroom Kingdom. To commemorate the simultaneous release of Nintendo's excellent Mario Kart 8 and the new GLA SUV — both available in Japan from today — you'll be able to download a "GLA Kart" to use in your races against Bowser, Yoshi, and co.

 

The downloadable content will be free and available from this summer in Japan, but it may make its way elsewhere; a Nintendo UK spokesperson told Eurogamer that "we will be able to announce in the near future" any plans for a wider release.

This is just me, but this is the dumbest thing I've seen today.

I agree, it kills the overall look of the game by introducing a real vehicle...seems like Nintendo needed some cash and grabbed the first opportunity it found

With today's technology I often wonder why we don't have colonies on the moon or Mars. Then I go to Wal Mart for 5 minutes and realize the vast majority of the human populace isn't ready for such things.
