Ad-supported floataplane tier I know floayplane is an ad-free platform, but I think adding a new tier with ads could make floatplane accessible to more people. But there not too many ads to be annoying; I'm thinking up to 3 for a 15 minute video and up to 5 unskippable 10-15 second ads for 60 minutes. And maybe for their to be a specific time frame when ads can show up like in-between transitions or some other stuff but not in the middle of a sentence. And maybe a maximum resolution of 720p resolution. Now the big talk the price im thinking 2.99 or 3.50

There is also going to be a poll for this exact question i will link it in the comments

I think the costs to provide customer support and credit card processing would eliminate any profit gained.

How about NO. Fun fact $3 is what I pay for Floatplane because I'm OG. In my opinion if a service has ads, then the service should be free. PERIOD.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Is this an AI bot posting & promoting all this? 🤔

Adding ads in no way makes anything "More accessible" - That's just bullshit & spin.

If anything, that will drive folks away instead.
We get bombed by ads all over the place anyway and I hate getting "Ad-Bushed" when watching vids on YT for example.

If that's ever happens here I'll be popping in less and less to the point I'm outta here.
I get enough advertising bullshit thrown in my face from other sources so stick your ads where the sun isn't shining..... And leave 'em there.

It's NICE to go to a place where ads aren't rampaging on/across your screen with no warning for a change.

Yes IIRC the $3 plan was raised to $5 because otherwise all the margin is lost to processing fees. And one of the main reasons for FP was to have an avenue that does not depend on advertising...

That why all of the old tiers are without ads

My understanding, as a regular WAN Show viewer, is that ads only make sense if they are targeted, which requires hoovering up ridiculous amounts of user data, which is something Linus and Luke do not want to do; it seems contrary to the whole reason they started Floatplane: so that they're not beholden to advertisers. Non-targeted ads generate such little revenue that it wouldn't pay for even a fraction of the added cost such a huge influx of new viewers would bring. L&L also seem pretty big on privacy, which, again, you can't have with targeted ads. So an ad-supported tier on Floatplane seems impossible unless L&L want to take all the goodwill that they're painstakingly built over the years, throw it in a big fire, and tank their own platform. Because, by having targeted ads, you're basically just creating youtube, and we already have youtube; it's called youtube. Floatplane is meant to try and solve the problems associated with youtube's model, and you can't do that if you adopt youtube's model.
