Upgrading SSDs

Go to solution Solved by StDragon,

RAM and NAND Flash (chips used for SSD storage) are basically a commodities market. The industry tries to match supply/demand, but RAM specifically has a history of price fixing and collusion. NAND just depends on the market. Both seems to follow boom and bust cycles that leave an over supply (cheap for the consumer), to lack of it (prices rise).

If you're not hurting for storage, just wait for the next cycle of deals.

So, right now i dont necesarrily need to upgrade my ssd, but i know in around another year+, i would definitely need to.
my question, is that recently the price of ssd has been going up. do you guys think i should wait for several months for it to go down (if it will?) or but it like right now?

I am really stating, that currently i dont need it, but i know that i will need it in quite a far future

Prices are going to change all of the time.

NAND lags beind RAM's price adjustment, but it's just a slower pace at also being lower and lower price,

@VL_Hermes why do you know you'd need an SSD, and what kind of use case it is?

As silicon is shifted to HBM, and foundries limit production to avoid exces stocks that put price down last years, RAM and SSD prices are expected to rise in 2024/25

Prices have been great for years for SSDs though. Unless you seek top tier models and highest capacity. Really up to you but I doubt they will go up as in anything meaningfully.
