Opinions on emulation?

Looking for different view points on the topic of emulation. I know some people dump legit game copy’s to play on modern hardware and some sail the high seas. But I want to hear your opinion.

For some things I use emulation ( GameCube, N64, anything sega, etc.) but for some things I use legit hardware ( DS for DS and gba, Wii for “legit backups”,) but I own a copy of super Mario galaxy and download its files to play on my laptop while on vacation and according to Nintendo that’s the spawn of satan. I own the game, you got your money, leave me be.

In my opinion if you’re not going to make the game readily available on your own modern hardware, I’m gonna pirate it ( now that I realize it they can’t easily port most Wii games since the motion controls are different, might work but idk)And I shouldn’t have to pay an extra $5 a month for Nintendo switch online to play a very small library of gba and n64 games. I’m gonna run them on retroarch.

nintendos Eula makes it more confusing. They say on their faq page that “games are not software” and there Eula stats “you can’t copy software”. You heard it everyone, they didn’t say I couldn’t pirate Wiiware games.

I dislike piracy because i think the people who encourage and condone piracy are massive nerds. Like just the most annoying nerds in general. If i was trapped in a room with two people and a loaded gun with one round in it, and one of them was a PC power supply tier list parrot, and the other was bragging about their collection of blu-ray torrents, i would shoot myself out of sheer regret for not being able to shoot them both.

Piracy is lame, and runaround arguments for it are also lame. I dont care what you do with your media but the weird hoops people jump through to feel justified to themselves, in turn attempting to convince others, is as ive already described several times, lame.

Don't really have strong opinions on it. I guess it's somewhat wrong but also the only way to play certain titles without shelling out huge amounts of cash.

I guess its just a lot easier to buy into something when the price is free but that also means you have very little ties to whatever it is.

Also, in videogames, I think like technically you're paying to be granted permission to use the files as is. Like,  you can get mods but I don't think Nintendo will be happy to hear that you can recompile n64 games now.

And that's another thing about piracy is the experience is sometimes better than the real thing. In any case, piracy means losing the 'moral' argument and just saying "so what?" Cause who exactly is being hurt by this? Definitely not the company that owns the IP.

its just so hard not to emulate. the about of fetchers it has is just nuts.

im trying to kinda use old hardware with everdrives (thow not all games work...) vary costly like $500 a system. but i do buy cd so gamecube and up and i buy switch games and i have like 24 of them something like $2400 or something.

not only that you can play rom hacks witch is huge these days.

but i do recommend going the mini consoles and mod them save you moeny...

but Nintendo is the big cat in the room most other dont care you play there game and when its available to buy recommend you do so and probably most people do.

now "buying it" renting is another topic all of its own.

Do what you want. Download illegal roms for all I care. Just don't go around talking like you have some moral authority to do it. In reality, no one cares if you paid or not. That's just my opinion.

These days, I buy most of the games I play. In the past, I pirated for many reasons, such as games not being available on the platforms I owned, no longer being sold through official channels, because I couldn't afford them, or simply because I thought the value proposition was bad. But no one has ever asked me where I got the games I play or how I paid for them. So just keep it to yourself.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

ya alot of people did back in the days thow there were other options like renting.(and you could get a game for like $5 at the pwan shops...) but ya i was from a poor family so we got most game for free as it was cheap entertainment. then when i could afford them i buy em. people that dont buy it were never going to to begin with. with no compromise from company's some times you have no option. there people that want to pay for it but cant...

imo if they want people to re buy an old game is to make a good remake. some remakes are bangers like mario rpg and thousand year door. or like mario 99 fzero 99 (even thow nintendo shuts them down...)ya switch games cost alot but...you can buy a game play it then tried it or sell it for what you paid for it as the price stays the same prity much.  but nds is not on a subscription yet so there only 2 options really.

OLD games - 100% ok with direct 1:1 piracy.  These things aren't being made available, and I still want to play them (Arcanum is my drug of choice here)

Last gen - I believe that if a company has stopped making games for a system, that system is fair game.  I'll put an eye patch on for MOST PS4 games, as well as any PS3 or earlier games at this point.

Current gen games - Give.  Us.  Demos.  - No, that doesn't mean "oh, buy it on steam and refund it", we need DEMOS of games.  I'll proudly tag team my VPN to get a game I'm not sure of so I can test it for an honest couple hours, see what I think, and then either delete it, or buy it.

Nintendo - Yeah, they deserve their own category.  They never discount any 1st party titles in any meaningful way like even $ony or Micro$oft do, and they charge a premium for not only their remakes, remasters, and very slight changes to put a title on the Switch.  I'll endlessly pirate them with 0 remorse, only paying for titles that I'm beyond 100% sure I'll get value from, because they've shown too many times that they're happy pushing a shit B-tier product, but will happily take your AAA-wallet for it, and then ask for DLC payments.

End - The price of a RELIABLE VPN + some time spent on Youtube pays for itself, and learning to solder is never a bad thing.  I still mostly buy what I'm playing for any ream amount of time, but I'll also never fault someone for robbing a multi million/billion dollar company that wouldn't spit on you if you were on fire and begging for help.
