Rate my build for 1440p gaming?

Budget was 2k before tax and this is what i have https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qrhkrv

I kept the cooler off because I have a Frost Commander 140 already. I was told I could go with the 13700k for tiny bit higher boost clock and the extra 2 p cores but idk. Any reason to stay with 14600k over 13700k? Also i have 2 240hz 1440p monitors already so wanted a gpu that can handle those and 1440p gaming. I would like to edit and render videos using premier pro and after effects eventually as well. Also maybe get into animation on the side very little tho. Also the ram, i was told i wont get xmp to run but i was also told i should stick with the teamgroup kit (i had same speed/cas but G.Skill rgb kit before). Id about that tho i would like fast ram tbh

Please let me know your thoughts.

Why not AMD 7800X3D platform? Should cost around the same I believe. The video rendering and such would be a bit slower, but in games a tad better and AM5 socket has upgrade potential whilst LGA1700 has not. Zen 5 is coming this year.

But here's an interesting comparison: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-ryzen-7-7800x3d-cpu-review

I had that cpu and i kept getting stutters/freezes in sgw2 and cod warzone with my old 4080s before i returned it. Didnt like how limiting it is on ram either. I plan to buy and keep it for a few years and start fresh at that time so not worried about dead upgrade path

It' good, but need a cooler 🙂

Indeed a 7800X3D would be a wee bit faster in gaming

A 4070Ti at $900+ ? Get a 4080 !!

The PSU is overkill at 1200w

If you're not in a hurry then I'd wait for Zen 5 to be honest. Should arrive in Q3 2024. I believe Intel 13-14th gen will probably be obsolete already after it arrives (probably not actually obsolete, but a bad performance for buck).

All depends though if you really have patience to wait for it potentially max 5 months. If not, don't mind me, just keeping thread alive.

Avoid 13&14th gen rn. With the whole Intel/Nvidia fight that’s happening en I’d steer clear

Tbh that might just have been your setup. Can you post your current setup so we can make upgrades off that?

I dont have a setup right now, the parts that i do have on hand are the case, the air cooler (frost commander 140) and my ssds that i will use. I would need the rest of the parts. Here is the new build that I put together https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wkxsQP

Then it's a very capable machine. Good that you chose a more reasonable PSU by the way.

But the 4080 Super suggested by @PDifolco is a better option than the 4070 Ti also. Or any of those ~$1000 4080 Super-s:

You are right the 4080s would be much better, just dont know if i can fit that in with my list but i will try. I can only buy the gpu from bestbuy so i am somewhat limited.

I'd even "downgrade" to 14600KF to get a bit of budget for 4080 Super.

Thats a good point, id imagine the 2 less P cores wouldn't make that much of a difference in 1440p due to the 4080s performance, and im hoping in media production the 2 less p cores wont hurt me that much

That's a decent budget - if it is mostly for gaming, you should definitely get a 7800X3D for that as it's 15-20% faster in almost everything.

Also the 7800X3D hits peak performance with DDR5 6000 CL30 RAM (cheaper).

PSU seems overkill, but I know people like to have some headroom as even the i5's can spike over 400W.... with the 7800X3D an 850W PSU (cheaper) would probably be plenty.

If you're really considering $920 for a RTX4070TiS, then why not $1000 for a RTX4080S FE?

My workstation/gamer: Ryzen9 5900X@5Ghz, AC Freezer2 280mm AIO, ASUS TUF X570PRO, RTX3080Ti FE, 32Gb TridentZ DDR4-3600C14, M.2 1Tb WDSN850, M.2 1Tb WDSN550, 2x 8Tb WD80EFAX, Corsair HX850, LianLi O11 Air Mini + 3x NF-A14's, Gigabyte M27Q (27"/1440P/170Hz), Asus PA248 (24"/1200P/60Hz), Dell WFP2408 (24"/1200P/60Hz), G815 kbd, G502 mouse, Sony WH-H910N, ModMic Wireless.
