BIOS Update, now PC needs started twice to display.

Have you reset the BIOS after the update?
Might help.

Mobo: MSI B450 TOMOHAWK Max

Storage: WD_BLACK 2TB SN850X NVMe SSD

RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200MHz (4 sticks)

PSU: EVGA 750W B5 90 Plus Bronze

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X

GPU: EVGA 3070 XC3 Ultra

OS: Windows 11 Home

AMI BIOS: 7C02v3I

Hey LTT Forum!

I recently updated my MSI B450's BIOS to the most recent 7C02v3I version in order to use resizable bar, and because my BIOS was very outdated. After the update everything works as normal, except the first time the system turns on after a shutdown, it displays nothing on the screen. No text, no bios splash screen, no windows, nothing. The weird thing is that once I turn the PC off again (holding the power button) it displays like normal. Right now it seems like there might be a bug with the firmware since literally nothing has changed except the bios. The PC wasn't opened in between, moved, or even breathe on. I just plugged a USB in and flashed my bios.

Any ideas on things to do to try and fix this? It isn't really causing any problems, but it's getting really annoying having to turn my system on and off again uneccesarily.

There are two things you should try.

1st - disable the fast startup / hybrid sleep in Windows (or just disable Hibernation)

2nd - try to locate a vBios update for your GPU.

Ok fast startup didn't work and my vBios is on the most recent update. Still no luck fixing it, but thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks! Just tried this and it fixed the problem! I slowly changed all my bios setting back and found the XMP was causing it. No idea why, but I guess I'll just be leaving that off for now.

You can try turning XMP back on and downclocking the RAM to 3000 or 2933. Having the RAM on stock JEDEC 2133/2400 limits your Ryzen a lot.

Got it! Yeah I just left it off for the time being, but I'll start trying to find a good clock for it today. Thanks again for the advice!
