MSI A320M both ram sticks visible in bios, but only 1 stick is usable in windows (memory hardware reserved)

damian61

My friend just got a used PC, he wanted to upgrade the memory from 8GB to 16GB. kit is working in my system totally fine, but when we tried to use it in his system - its showing up in BIOS, you can setup the profile. Its also visible in windows, but half of it is memory hardware reserved...

Both memory sticks are working when we boot it from the DIMMA1 slot, but if there is 1 memory only in the DIMMB1 the system is not booting at all. Black screen, but the fans are spinning.

Any idea how can I fix this issue?

What we tried

- 3 different ram (kingston, crucial, corsair)

- boot with Ryzen 3 2200G, Ryzen 5 1600AF

- BIOS update (latest version)

- Win reinstall

Any idea how can I fix this issue? Or its a faulty mobo?

Either a faulty MB or faulty memory controller in the CPU. nm, missed that you tested two different CPUs.

it could still be allocation problem,

OP could try doing msconfig max memory setting, and setting it to the max RAM the 2 sticks provide, which is 16384 MB
