Is this Orico external ssd enclose with a Kingston NV2 be good for gaming?

iCHeWiE

Planning on buying this Orico m.2 external enclosure and pairing it with a Kingston NV2 1TB

Going to use it for gaming.

is it more worth it than downloading games on Desktop AND Laptop?

They work fine, an internal nvme will be quicker but I use one at work and get 200-300 mbps. If I had the choice i would keep everything stored internally. I don't like having stuff plugged into my laptop if I don't need to, it's easy to break a port

A kington nv2 is a extremely low end ssd with a very low life expectancy. A crucial p3 is a little bit more and way faster.

Other than that, is the enclose okay?

Its a generic alright enclosure.

I'd personally just keep games on both devices but you can do this with steam quite seemlessly

Yes, the enclosure happened to be in an LTT video about smaller handy things to consider buying. I happened to buy it to use with an OEM nvme drive pulled from a laptop, and for me it maxed out at 700 MBps (5600 mbps) during mass file copy which was a bit slower than when it was installed in my desktop (~1200 MBps).

That shouldn't make a difference for loading games and similar such uses, but if you care about maximizing speeds because you use it for intensive stuff like mass file copy/backup or something, then the same company or other ones (like Sabrent) offer faster enclosures as long as your laptop supports whatever faster USB specs they require.

NV2 is now on 144l QLC intel NAND and SM2267XT DRAMless

P3 is on 176l QLC micron NAND and Phison E21T DRAMless

both are low end, and very low life

I didn't know it was featured in the channel.

I'm planning on mainly using it for games. Is it an Okay option?

It’s entry level SSD on QLC one of the cheapest you can buy.

it’s ok as games usually don’t require much, but do note, that write speeds, especially any sustain writes will be slow. Any updates etc. Will be slow.
And it’s QLC so low life ( small TBW )

Yes it's an okay option for gaming, especially if outside of that you don't expect more than 700 MBps sequential read/write speed.
