Using a Kioxia Enterprise drive in a regular PC

So for a while now I have been thinking if its possible to use a kioxia enterprise ssd as a storage device for my PC. Would it be even possible to do that? and if so where could I get some brand new kioxia ssd(apart from ebay ofcourse)?

It just seems really dumb to do this. For one you are paying WAY more for features you will never use and longevity for writes you will never even get close to.

 

Second : quite a few of these drives use Server connectors that are either not popular on mainstream PCS or not at all on them. So youd have to narrow it down to those specific models with m.2 Connectors or if your board supports U.2.

 

Third: They are a pain in the ass to actually buy. Most of the time youd have to go through a business account through newegg or something similar, they arent usually on online stores since they are usually bulk bought. Sometimes a few go on ebay though as you mentioned.

Possible? Sure.

 

But there is no reason to do this at all. Sure they are of a higher standard but like I use(d) extreme scratch drives for 3d work and like my mx500 has been goin for 5 years suffering away same as my 950 pro.

 

Plenty awesome consumer drives out there.

 

Also the Kioxia costs A TON, needs a u.2 adapter card which again costs A TON, needs hard active cooling, is literally not possible to buy as a consumer unless a store is breaching contract/has refurbs and just is plain not worth it at all

You can, just needs a PCIe to u.2 adapter card, which is just a cheap passive thing. Can find adapters for m.2 slots too.

But that's the thing you buy used so you can have a good deal, usually what you find has barely any use compared to the insane ratings.

 

But unless you have specific high write uses, not much point.

I’m just thinking about the same. 

the U.2 kioxia cd6-r 15TB, or U.3 kioxia cd8-r 15TB is quite cheap, and you get good TLC NVMe drive, with good sustained writes. it cost around 1500$ new with all the tax included. 
 

you just need a passive PCIe or M.2 to U.2/U.3 adapters, that also are cheap.

 

the cost compare to 2 x 8TB M.2 SSD is much less, and you only take one PCIe/M.2 slot
