Need help finding a budget friendly replacement for 4060

Ezra1110

Budget (including currency): £700 gbp

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: AAA Titles

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):  this is a complete fresh build.

they want the build to have a 4060, and they need a good monitor too, which breaks the budget, are their any cheaper GPU options that offer similar performance, i havn't built in 15 years si im out of the loop abit, I just want to make sure i can give my nephew the best PC I can

Thanks in advance for any advice,

yeah good timing, also what monitor are you buying? because if the gpu costs like 300, then you still have plenty for a good monitor, don't see why that would be an issue

Something like this would work, will write few notes under it:

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor  (£89.99 @ AWD-IT)
Motherboard: MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard  (£69.00 @ Computer Orbit)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory  (£34.99 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Kingston NV2 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive  (£49.99 @ Scan.co.uk)
Video Card: Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 7600 8 GB Video Card  (£252.98 @ Overclockers.co.uk)
Case: Montech X3 Mesh ATX Mid Tower Case  (£49.99 @ Scan.co.uk)
Power Supply: Corsair CV650 650 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  (£58.58 @ Scan.co.uk)
Monitor: Asus VP228DE 22.8" 1920 x 1080 60 Hz Monitor  (£65.09 @ MoreCoCo)
Custom: Stock cooler (£0.00)
Total: £670.61
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2023-12-23 23:53 GMT+0000

Notes:

  • All parts can be bought on whatever website, and there could be price variations but some specs can be interchanged without any repercussions
  • You mentioned AAA games, and for "trying new games", while the aim is impossible, do understand that the newer and more polished, the more graphical features the game has, the more demanding it is and therefore requires faster PCs/lower settings for compensation (game dependent, not all games release barely optimized with gazillion intense graphics)
  • Some parts like CPU & GPU could be bought from secon-hand market to stretch the budget or allow faster component (CPUs I heared usually have least amount of liability)
  • RAM brand doesn't really matter, 3200Mhz + 16CL latency ram at 16GB is enough for gaming (needs to be 2 sticks that add up to that number for DualChannel)
  • 1TB SSD M.2 is ideal, though 1TB can barely hold 10 games, depending on which they are, some games barely take space (storage can be bought later though)
  • Monitor can be whatever brand, 1080p, 60Hz, 8ms or less

Any further questions/concerns I can answer.

A note here:

That 3600 shouldnt be taken at new list price, you can find them in lots in used market at around 25-45 pounds. CPU is the least likely thing to outright fail so you really can only win when shopping for used CPU.
