What did you do to your computer today?

Issac Zachary

Thoughts about this thread (kind of like rules but these are my ideas and I'm not a rule maker):

  • I thought I'd open up this discussion just so people can let others know the little things they do to their computers (or perhaps other electronic devices) that are out of the ordinary use they normally do.
  • Things like:
    • RAM, CPU, or storage drive upgrades.
    • Accessory installs, printers, mice, etc.
    • Maintenance things like cleaning the dust out.
    • That game or app or screensaver or such that you finally got around to installing.
    • Maybe you finally decided to update your computer to Windows 11 or you ran an anti-virus or hardware check of some sort just to see what was going on.
  • I'm talking about things that don't merrit their own thread, but it would be nice to just tell others what you did; the kinds of things that would be nice to see what others are doing.
  • You know, the kind of things that aren't full detailed builds but aren't necessarily troubleshooting either, at least not the kind that you need the help from the community and therefore would be better off making or joining a separate thread.
  • I think it would be nice for just the "Hey, I tried this new mouse out and I like it, just wanted others to know" or "I almost spilled coffee on my keyboard today" kind of thread.
  • If this thread gains traction then I'd suggest having it pinned, but I'm probably jumping the gun.

Anyhow, here's my doings today:

Today I finally got around to purchasing and installing that second stick of RAM for my 12th Intel Gen desktop. It's another 8GB 3200 DDRM 4 module from Crucial, the same exact one as the one it already had, so now I have double the RAM as before, a total of 16GB. I'm not sure if I really needed it, but I kept getting complaints from the computer for having too many tabs open in Edge causing me to use up all my RAM. Anywho, yep, that's what I did alright.

Did you do anything to your computer today?

I tried out a couple of mouses that I bought off of Facebook marketplace.

I was intending to flip them, but I dnt really feel like giving them away now that I know they are really nice mice.

Anyone trying to buy from me anyways? lol

If they're a ball driven Intellimouse with at least a PS/2 connection (preferrably a serial connection) I'd be very much interested.

Out of luck

I'm sure I could find something along those lines in my Grandpas graveyard basement though

Removed the HP 800 G2 from the rack for upgrades just so to be disappointed that HP didn't added support for intel 7th. gen CPUs.

Got a new case, the Corsair 4000D RGB. That was a treat to build in tbh - but my PSU died shortly after lol. So, also got a new PSU also Corsair.

I do love the Corsair AF fans, pretty quiet and move a lot of air - thinking of upgrading my CPU cooler fans to the same.

Brought home a laptop from work, a 2005 Dell Inspiron 6400 running Windows XP Pro and upgraded the two 512mb ram sticks with a couple of 2gb modules. That and cloned the failing original 80gb hard drive over to a 1tb SSD. So much faster now.

Yeah, i know... It's old and obsolete.

But so is the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system at work that the laptop is used on to program, repair and reinstall software. Software that will only run on either Windows 2000nt or Windows XP Pro.

So until work decides to upgrade to at least Micro logistics, i have to keep the ole laptop's heart beating.
