dual r5 430's on lga 1155

moxi
Go to solution Solved by FloRolf,

I would say try to get a half decent used 500+ Watt PSU and install that RX580. I am sure you can either lowball someone on Craigslist or get another 20 bucks somewhere. it really is worth it over the R5 430.

just wanted to know that can my lga 1155 support crossfire and boost performance or not

PC SPECS:
i5 2nd gen
10gigs of ram

500gb hdd

128gb ssd

single r5 430

320watts psu

motherboard lga 1155 manufactured by *hp*

yes it should but PLEASE don't do it.

You are better off getting a GTX1050Ti or something used.

I think Crossfire support would depend on the specific board, not the chipset.

That said, 2x garbage is still garbage. A single ~$30 used card will deliver exponentially better performance even if you got 100% Crossfire scaling, which you never will.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. I doubt a Dell motherboard would have the PCI-E slots for crossfire *, but you can check that pretty easily.

And as said above, even if it did work, I doubt it would be worthwhile with such old cards. You'd be better off with almost anything modern, like a RX 460, GTX 1050 or newer.

Assuming that it would scale perfectly (it won't) you're sitting at about 2/3 the raw performance of a 1030.

i have a rx 580 used in my drawer should i just change the graphic card? and can my psu handle it? ( i have a budget around 25$ to 20$ that's why i thought of adding another r5 430 as i might need to change the psu for rx580)

Doubtful. Does your PSU even have the appropriate power connectors?

You can. Ideally, you wouldn't.

In that case it's a hard no to use sata to PCI-e. A sata cable has one 12v wire that can carry 54w while a 8 pin PCI-e has three 12v wires that can carry 150w. The sata cable gets melting.

Oh but can you post a picture of the inside of the PC? You might have proprietary Motherboard connector which make a standard PSU hard to implement.

RX 580 is massively faster than what you have. The r5 430 is just a display adapter nowadays, nothing more, but the RX 580 can play anything except the very latest games (and even some of those too). The problem is the power consumption.

You wouldn't be able to do Crossfire anyway because you only have one PCIe slot (the others are PCI).

It's tough to see but it looks like this board uses a non-standard connector for the motherboard power.

Expansion slots
(3) PCI; (1) PCIe x1; (1) PCIe x4; (1) PCIe x16

That link is for an SFF system, which yours is not.

Anyway, putting the two physical x16 slots right next to each other (which is why I didn't notice the second one before) is basically HP sending a message that they don't intend for anybody to actually use both.

More importantly, I've found pics of the minitower Compaq Elite 8300 motherboard (assuming that's what you have) and it definitely doesn't use standard 24-pin motherboard power. It uses... damn, what's even going on here?

I would honestly suggest salvaging your drives and RAM and looking for some other barebones used system with a decent PSU and standard connectors that you can drop the RX 580 in.
