Check this mod out. It is huge but so worth it.

Cinematic Moda Half-Life 2 mod

Raises the outdated graphical appearance of the Half-Life 2 trilogy to a state-of-the-art level, while giving it a more stressed, darker and minatory look. All low-res textures are replaced by high-res counterparts.

Cinematic Mod adds an emotional cinematic music soundtrack, optional HD models and unused content from the original games!

From the comparison pictures on their website it looks really impressive.

I loved your iswitched "guide" very helpful when I wanted to switch to linux for a while.

The mod is huge. You will need all the half life 2 games(base half life 2 and ep1 and 2). Total size after mod install is about 47.6 GB. Check out their trailers and pics.

Glad you liked it. Might do something similar when the new version of Elementary OS is out :P

... WOW! That sure is one hell of a big mod :)

really good mod, but cripples performance, you have to run it in windowed mode for it to be over 60fps....also frame timing is abysmal

Performance should be better. I am running a similar setup to your build and I do get about 64 Fps average(with Vsync and whatnot).

HL1 and HL2. Lolnever

Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

As I get older I get angrier more cynical, meaner. I feel some warning posts coming. I feel a ban coming. I was warned.

47.6 GB say wat?

seriously, this is completely useless when the game encounters massive glitches and bugs through those massive "HD" textures.. i'd rather play the game with a bit enhanced graphics than encountering crashes at every second...

The game is not as crashy as you expect, and totally worth the 47GB. It looks godly as hell ingame and keeps up with any triple A game to date...

these kind of mods change stuff too much for me, layouts, things being added that werent in the vanilla game/removed that should be there, even if its just small things like stuff that is on desks and stuff

I still think HL2 is gorgeous even by today standards

Think of it like playing Torchlight 2 with synergies installed. Still the same base game but with added stuff and very good graphics. Hl2 is a bit dated and does show its age especially on a 2k display. You can customise the mod to choose which stuff you want.

Lol that Alyx model looks so bad it's not even funny. They've screwed with the art direction; she no longer looks like a real person, doesn't matter how many polygons You add.

You can choose not to use that model. By default all models are the old half life 2 ones. You have to manually select which Alyx model you want if you want to change it.
