Why do these look awful lot like Startech/whoever actualy makes them KVM switches?

For example, these two:

https://www.store.level1techs.com/products/p/14-display-port-kvm-single-4computer-6zepx-s4kf3

https://www.startech.com/en-es/server-management/sv431hdu3a2

Like, they are not similar, they are identical (case, not specs ofc. because I am too lazy to search for one with the same specs)

They source some of their products from the same manufacturer due to convenience or the nature of the product

And that's totally fair. Creating hardware from scratch costs pretty penny. Might have been a bit more transparent about it.

Linus and Jake hook up a USB drive. Did he not realize that when he switches computers, the PC that got left behind is going to have a popup saying "Device was not safely removed. Data may be lost."

I can only find the Mac version of the warning right now, but this gives the idea:

not-ejected.jpg.dd611f850271f85ac63472de108b47c5.jpg

But since you've left that computer behind you'll never see the warning. And if you're switching between computers rapidly, like sometimes happens, data loss is likely...

Off topic, but anyone know who/where this PC/PC Case came from? It looks super cool, is it a screen on the front or just a photo with lighting? Either way, it looks awesome!

It's something by Maingear I think.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

I have a question about a similar product.

My problem is, I have 3 monitors, keyboard, mouse etc. hooked up to my gaming PC, but I would also like to hook those up to my MacBook Pro M2 - hopefully using a single cable.

If I just plug everything into a dock like the Lenovo 40AF (which uses DisplayLink), I'm guessing it works out of the box, however, DisplayLink is limited to 60 Hz or something like that, so that is not a good option.

Then I saw the quad monitor KVM from Wendell.. but that's way over budget for something I am going to use 1-2 times per week.

What other options do I have? I'm using a Gigabyte Z790 UD motherboard.

Desktop: i9 12900K - 64GB 6000 MHz CL36 - RTX 4090 X3 OC

Unraid server: Ryzen 3900X - 32GB 3200 MHz CL14 - Quadro P2000 - 50+ TB raw

They might be the manufacturing partner but they look like original products. I could only find one DisplayPort KVM that support DP 1.4 4K120 on their website and its only 2 input single monitor.

It was custom printed by Maingear.

Can you guys like stock Infinite Cable Cables in the lttstore? Like in standard lengths? Cuz I remember trying to order from them, but really you need to order in bulk from them for it to make sense.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Great video.

Do more of these. More colabs featuring cool tech.

And I'm going to now go buy a really expensive KVM from lvl1.

I've been on the fence about grabbing one of these for a while, but honestly, I think it's just time to get one. I think I'm going to commit to just running DP monitors, though my Deck is going to be odd-man-out. I have a portable gaming display for it, anyway, that works just fine.

Is it possible to connect multiple KVM extenders to that single KVM switch to manage multiple remote computers simultaneously? I'm wondering if this setup would allow me to avoid long HDMI cables and instead transmit the signals over the network from the server room. It's bound to help me avoid a tangle of cables! Or not😂

Hi!. I change cables a lot right now and it sucks, I play on PC and my wife on PS5, and depending on what game or media. sometimes we watch a movie on the Projector via PC, and then after the movie we switch to a game on PS5/projector so we need to change cables on the back of our devices, this happens 2-4 times every day in different combinations between our three screens, PC and PS5. ports and or cables will be damaged by all the action in the back. in and out all the time, can't be good.

So can any of Wendell stuff switch x3 Screens (TV, projector, and computer screen) and 1xPC and 1xPS5 around in any order? (only video and audio are needed)

Love the specs but won't fit m use case. As I need to switch the monitors individually. Say a setup with a work computer and a personal computer. While working I want 2x displays to work with. And while gaming after work I want 2x displays to game with. This will work with the kvm. But what if I'm stuck in a long meeting and I want to game a bit. I want to have my work pc on 1 monitor while I game on the other.

how do these handle the not-being-displayed machine(s) - do they still see a screen plugged in or does windows go apesh*t and mess up screen size/locations etc.?

(my setup is 4 screens on my main PC but only 2 for my work laptop, so currently have the PC connected via DP and the laptop via HDMI and switch the monitor inputs manually)

Thanks

I think I got very lucky with the Tendak KVM I've had since May 2021. I have my gaming PC and work laptop (via a docking station) connected and it handles my ultrawide 5120x1440 @ 120Hz no problem. I also have 2x Streamdecks, a Corsair K95, Logitech G604, external fingerprint reader and Windows Hello external webcam connected to it via a powered hub. It doesn't support hotkey switching but does have a switch button on an extender cable which I've mounted under the front of my desk.

I'm amazed at how well it works, although It's not perfect, maybe once a week it one of the PC's won't pick up the mouse properly, it will work as a standard mouse but the Logitech software cannot see it and map the extra buttons, usually a flick between machines again sorts it. A couple of times over the last year or so, it has locked up completely, had to unplug everything, switch it off and restart it empty, then plug everything back in.

It does only handle a single monitor and I wasn't expecting much for £55 when I bought it, thought I'd take a risk but been pleasantly surprised.
