Hard drive undetected?

Hi guys,
So recently out of nowhere I turned on my PC and it took around 10 minutes just to post, once its on it runs just fine but I've noticed my hard drive is no longer connected. I've checked my disk management and it comes up with "Disk 0 Unknown not initialised" when i try to initialise it i get an error message saying "A device which does not exist was specified.". I have also tried unplugging all connections to do with my hard drive and giving them a quick wipe, this worked and my hard drive was connected again and i could access everything on it but once i shut my computer down again and turned it back on i had the same problem. If anyone could help me that would be greatly appreciated!! also my computer is around 4 years old.

You can try connecting it to a different SATA port and maybe booting into a Live Linux environment to see if you can get any data off of it that way, but it really sounds like your drive just died. If you care about the data on it, take it to a data recovery specialist, just know they won't be cheap.

Sometimes you can freeze the hard drive to make it work long enough to backup some data. I have done it many years ago and it worked. Not sure if it still works with newer tech

Freezing can only help if it's the bearing, or some specific head problem (as far as i know, it won't help with logical, or PCB problems )

Do note, that with any other problem, it can lead to scratching the platters… and data loss.

In that case, freezing should be a last resort.
