TV Recommendations $300 or less

niofalpha

Hi all, my old TV and Firestick combo I've had since 2014 finally kicked the bucket so I'm looking to get a new TV. I'm looking to spend around $300 or less on a TV (if it's got all the bells and whistles I want I'd go up to mid $300s). I don't watch TV a lot but there are quite a few shows on my backlog I need to catch up on but can't. Mostly would be watched from bed located maybe 12 feet from the TV, mostly used at night.

Requirements

  • 4K
  • 40" minimum
  • Some form of a Roku/ similar build in so I don't need to get another Fire Stick (bonus points if it's usable)

Things I'd like but not mandatory

  • Good quality (I imagine this is below the price range for most of the high end x-OLEDs I see in LTT videos)
  • Decent speakers (I don't have surround or anything of that sort)

Additionally, would it be worthwhile to wait for a big sale? I don't need it immediately, it's just something that would be nice to have.

Thanks 🙂

Generally speaking you wont find anything with *decent* speakers on a TV. A $50-100 soundbar / subwoofer combo will outclass pretty much every built in speaker set, especially below $500.

That being said, assuming you're in the USA, the best time to get TV's is before Super Bowl Sunday (beginning of February). They put out the biggest discounts because A they want to move inventory for new models and B, people want to upgrade their system for "The Big Game" so there's lots Of buyers.

That makes a lot of sense for the sales, I'll definitely probably wait then and continue to mooch off other people with nicer TVs

You can buy any TCL TV that fits in your budget.

Then for watching things, set the TV audio to night mode (or something similar) so that all of the low volume and high volume stuff is "normalized"

It sounds like you just want to watch TV and don't care about the nitty gritty amazing contrast and wide colour gamut, nor do you care about preserving the integrity of mumbling dialogue and loud explosions and gunshots. Not being snarky - I "watch" TV on my second monitor while staying focused on other important tasks on my main monitor.
