Which to get? 7950 v 7970

Lethalviperr

Hi everyone sorry to ask this as sure it's been asked alot.

I'm running 2 x 1080p screens (only gaming on one) and was wondering if the 7970 is really worth the extra money compared to the 7950?

Also which brand/ model do people reccommend for silence?

Will almost definately be buying from this site so here is a list of their 7950 and 7970 options.

7950-https://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=193_1311&vk_sort=1

7970-https://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=193_1309&vk_sort=1

Cheers  :D

7950 seems to be winning all the benchmarks that linus has been doing and as he said on the live stream get a 7950.

i5 3570 | MSI GD-65 Gaming | OCZ Vertex 60gb ssd | WD Green 1TB HDD | NZXT Phantom | TP-Link Wifi card | H100 | 5850

7950 is better price to performance.

msi asus sapphire are alright for silence, but really you can turn the fans down on the loudest cards and keep the temps and sound decent.

Personally,  I'd go with the 7950. I wasn't 100% sure so I looked up a benchmark. I got this. I hope it answers your question.

If you're only gaming on one 1080p screen the 7950 is more than sufficient.

I would go with the 7950 because it is a great overclocker and it has a great price to performance ratio. I would recommend the MSI Radeon HD7950 3GB Twin Frozr III Boost Edition card.

If you can afford the most expensive 7950 you might as well get the cheapest 7970.

Very true as long as the cooler on the cheap 7970 does not sound like a hair dryer imo.

That's a fine choice and reasonable price as long as that etailer is not gouging you for shipping fees.

PCCG are pretty reasonable on shipping :) wouldnt matter anyway, they are easily the cheapest place in Aus to get hardware, apart from maybe MSY who are on par.

Oh Australia LOL that place is retarded how much they get away with overcharging people for PC hardware LOL that's an epic good price then in that case.

So would this be worth it over the 7950 version of the card?

If you want the extra performance i guess so but at 1080P i think a 7950 will be well and truly good enough and apparently the 7950 is the best bang for buck card in the AMD range so i guess you just have to work out whether the extra $90 is worth it to you or not.

have you got a decent sound card or DAC? need a decent gaming keyboard or mouse etc? if you need one of the things i mentioned i would defiantly be going 7950 and spending the $90 elsewhere on the PC.

Nar I don't need anything else, razer mamba and logitech G19 so fine for peripherals, 2600k @ 4.4ghz, 8gb ram, ssd etc so system is fine just due for a gpu upgrade.

Best to have a think about it and check out some recent benchmarks then (Linus has probably done some recent ones) and see if you think the FPS difference is worth it :)
