I have $250 for a mic and headphones. What do I get?

tryphaa

Title basically says it all. I was looking at the AT2020, since I've heard that the Yeti picks up background noise. As for headphones, I have no clue. I listen to a variety of things, so it doesnt matter what they excel in, I'll be happy either way. I'd prefer not to have to buy an amp/dac, and my onboard is not that great. I will be running them through a passthrough jack on my speakers if that changes anything. I can stretch maybe $20 extra if I have to.

Thanks for any help!

If you get a yeti, you just have to make sure you're talking into it with the gain turned down.  (Which you should be doing with any mic anyways)

maybe Sennheiser HD598 for headphones, but that leaves little if anything for mic, tho the modmic is supposed to be really good and is cheap, and it would be good budget headphones that will last you a LONG time :)

Edit or the 558 for lower cost

Do you still want those 900x's? You mentioned awhile back about it.

If you want a demo of a yeti I have one you can listen to me, and excon has an at2020 I think.

I dont know honestly. I was looking at 700x's for $120 new, but I dont know if I need an amp/dac or not. Out of the two, which would you get, mic wise?

@ShearMe help me too pls

Shearme is at lunch with his family bro.

They sound nearly identical, which is cheaper?

The 900x's have a tiny bit more bass, but not a whole lot.  When you get the 700x/ 900x or w/e you get, you'll know then if you need an amp most likely.

Well at least he'll see it eventually. The 900x's are around $60-80 more. My other choice would be the m50x's which I dont believe need an amp, and the coiled cable would help since I  sit a few feet away from my speakers. I think I might get the at2020, unless you could convince me otherwise.

I guarantee you the 900x/ 700x/500x will sound better than m50's.  Don't buy them, they're a bit overated tbh.

In theory you don't need an amp with the 500x/700x/900x, but if your onboard sucks weenie, it may be a better option to get a cheap solution like the syba dac for 40$

Is the yeti cheaper? or the at2020? If the at2020 is cheaper get it, if the yeti is cheaper get dat.

It's an awkward situation since the usb cable has to be at least 5ft long for the Syba, and I doubt it's that long. The only reason I was considering the m50x's was because I could use them without an amp, and when I can upgrade to something really nice, I could use them with my phone. The Yeti and AT2020 are the same price.

You would need an amp/dac for the m50x if your onboard is trash, which is what I'm getting at for the 500/700/900 as well.  On paper they don't need an amp, an Ipod can drive them.

BUT if your onboard is bad, you may need it.

I value his opinion, since he knows a ton more about audio then a lot of people, so that's why I tagged him. I'm glad you wasted your time to come here and instead of helping me, you decided to complain about something irrelevant. Before you respond to this, think about what I just said.

People tag me for watercooling advice, fan advice and questions about 1440p/ 780 SLI all the time. Doesn't bug me in the slightest.

Actually he finds it very annoying and the mods don't like it either. You all should stop doing that.

But back to the OP, AKG K612 and a modmic is what I would recommend. Unless you want closed then Beyerdynamic DT770 or custom one pros are great.

is this real life?

Why would mods not like it if we tag other members of the forum? What difference does it make? We're simply attracted their attention to this thread.

To my knowledge it is the first time I ever tag someone. If shearme doesn't like it I'm sure he won't hesitate to tell me on PM as we're having a discussion about his recommandations. Now chill
