Basically never use PC as a switch. You can virtualize pfsense next to truenas or unraid, then you have a NAS and a router/firewall. But get a switch to act as a switch. 
 

This is possible, my homelab has many VM’s running, pfsense and truenas are 2 of them. So yes it’s possible. But it takes a lot of learning and running things bare metal before you get to that point… it’s easy to lock yourself out of the internet and/or your local network via virtualized firewalls.
