About resetting my custom PC

kaddle

I'm going to give my old Windows 10 computer to someone, which I built myself. I want to delete all of the data from the storage and have it give the "new computer experience", where windows goes through the initial process.

I do not want the OS to be deleted.

I've only ever reset computers to factory defaults back when I was using prebuilt computers, so I'm not entirely sure what the best approach is here.

Any help?

The Windows 10 reset is the same, regardless of if you're on a custom built PC versus a prebuilt/oem PC. Go into settings and look for the Reset option, make sure you select delete data and files. The best way to do it however, is to use a Windows 10 install USB and format the drives partitions and do a complete fresh install. You can also use the repair options on an install drive to reset the PC as well.

Resetting Windows with the built in option will delete everything including any drivers you installed. Your PC won't get the "new PC" experience because you'll have to install the drivers again after the setup. Prebuilts and laptops won't have that issue because the manufacturer builds the drivers right into Windows.
