is this strange?, seller unhappy with me because I did a factory reset.

So I bought an used laptop from facebook. Seller was friendly enough however, when I went home I did a factory reset on the surface because of security and peace of mind. However, during the process it failed and I don't know, so I told the seller and he was unhappy with me thinking I was wierd for wiping a clean install he put on there. However, isn't it more normal to just do a factory reset for any device that is used?

The seller has no way of knowing if you did it correctly or not, interrupted it during the process, etc.

If it worked when he sold it to you, and it doesn't after you did something, then it's kind of not his problem.

grab a USB Stick, make a windows installer, and do a clean install, deleting all partitions on the drive.

Never trust software from a random person.

Doing a reset from Windows is not something I assumed was deemed risky?. I thought it be something natural just to make sure I have a clean base to install my apps from and make sure nothing else is installed.

I'm not sure even if give me a refund. But another issue is until I met him today there was no mention of the screen being replaced either or the dings and dents. I should have said no but felt uncomfortable after coming all this way. I feel stupid

is he unhappy that you did a reset,

or is he unhappy that you did a reset on something they delivered in working condition, failed, and now you're bothering them with it?

i did refurbs for a while, we took extreme pride in getting things clean installed and updated, if someone returned one because *they* reinstalled it and bunged up.. we'd be bummed too.

It usually isn't, but the seller has no way of knowing what you did to it after it left his possession. So, for your question, is it strange the seller is unhappy, no it's not.

Those are all things you should have asked prior to meeting. It's entirely on you to do proper research when you're buying used items.

Feeling stupid is probably deserved, but take it as a learning experience and don't make the same mistakes in the future.

I'm surprised you'd take refunds at all for something like that. I know I wouldn't.

I got to hit back on the screen issue. if you were selling an item you mention in the listing the screen was damaged and replaced, You don't on the day of meeting say oh yeah the screen has been replaced,

If it is a good panel and done well, does it matter? You had a chance to see it when buying it. That you bought it would indicate you accepted its condition.

On the original thing, I wouldn't trust the OS, not even an OS reset. Do a full wipe and reinstall after checking if you can transfer the activation license.
