I've cut/shaved my DP cable to press it into the GPU

omuleanu
Go to solution Solved by Crunchy Dragon,

I've done that on several cables to make them fit into places, they all worked fine.

I've got the Cooler Master N200 case and GTX Gigabyte 1660 Super OC 3 Fan

when the GPU is in the Top slot Case prevents the Db cable from going all the way for about 3mm, which results in a monitor with no signal.

Are there any safety concerns with this fix/workaround ?

Little late to be asking about safety concerns, don't you think?

Soldering iron melts the plastic too.

the only time this is a bad idea is for proper DP cable that have the button and little metal hooks that lock the connector in place.

it has button and hooks, but they are on the bottom side, I needed to cut on the top

Why not just Dremel the case?  One and done, cable is still 100%.

Little grinding on that slot.  Easy.

Using a Dremel on the case is an idea but not one that I would do.  I wouldn't do it because of the risk of getting those tiny little metal pieces that I used the Dremel on falling into the case or onto the mobo.  Getting those tiny little pieces of  metal thrown into the case and into the mobo is a really bad idea.

My first idea was to cut the case, but I don't have anything like a Dremel.

You can always do it before you build the PC and clean up as well.

This sounds like an excuse honestly. People mod and cut their cases all the time.

Cables are much cheaper than a case. And cutting rubber/plastic is easier than grinding a case.

Seriously?  Grinding out a mm or two in that slot vs grinding away at a flexible cable?

And if you grind too much of the case, nothing happens.  If you fuck up that cable... potential risks.

Are you really telling my it's actually difficult to trim a slice off that metal slot above the DP connector?

Just say you don't want to do it.  Don't make it seem like sanding a millimeter away on metal is a thing.  It aint.

Grinding a case is more time consuming than taking an exacto to a cable. Neither one is difficult, one just takes more time/prep than the other. Don't get your underwear in a knot. If you don't like my method, don't use it. Simple.
