You asked "How do I get/do X?", which is asking support. Rule 3 doesn't allow support questions, and thus they deemed it lock-worthy. The moderator provided your answer, be it extremely concise. They could leave it open, but you'd get a hundred people giving you that same link with more or less words surrounding it.

How are they lazy? A thread was auto-locked, a mod checked and provided your answer. The only thing unlocking would result in is likely repetition of the same answer. Like I said, you can argue about how they run their ship, but this is how they have chosen to run their ship.

Almost all my legit questions are automatically removed for no reason, yet if I post memes or BS all day long all goes fine.

Are they trying to legitimately dumb our minds down on there?

It just seems a normal discussion is not allowed, here I get 1 link to 1 place, there could be alternatives that I am and even that mod are not aware of, they also do nothing to substantiate how to use what they linked either.

I don't know who "they" is supposed to be. Any given subreddit is as good or as bad as the people who post on it and moderate it. Reddit as a company doesn't take any notice of anything happening on any given sub unless it gets unsavory enough to make news headlines. There is no concerted conspiracy by The Powers That Be of reddit to "dumb our minds down", that would require way more effort than the people who run reddit actually put into anything.

If I had to guess you asked a question they've seen on that sub so many times that the mods just give you the same link anybody who bothered to respond was going to give and then removed the thread to clear clutter and save you from a bunch of responses saying that the same question had been asked and answered many times and telling you to search better.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

That is not what was said in that post, it was simply removed, also treating people like this causes them to never go there again, mods being lazy and fed up with their position is not an excuse.

I simply went in and asked a genuinely normal question.

If I am going to be controlled I want a reason, there was no reason.

Boycotting, abandoning and leaving people in the dark is the only way they learn as there is no one else to blame then.

Remove their power by not interacting, it's only me, but I am me and no one else is.

I don't know what your other questions/posts entailed, but in this case the question is answered by the moderator. I can see why one would consider this of the "you go here, no further discussion needed" kind of question. You can argue about how they run their ship, that's fine, but there are advantages to this approach leaving space for more elaborate questions this way.

Their sub rules also state

Quote

Rule 3: Support.

Do not create threads requesting support.

This mainly includes, but is not strictly limited to:

  • Refund issues
  • Technical support
  • Family sharing issues
  • Trading or market issues
  • Steam client or server issues
  • General crashes and game-specific issues
  • Questions about if others are facing the same issues
  • Account issues such as bans, hijackings/hacks, or Steam Guard

Although they may mean support in the more traditional sense of customer/product support, you can even argue this falls under "support" and thus you (unintentionally) broke sub rules, ergo lock. Or per rule 2 they consider this an extremely common question and therefore auto-lock with the answer.

Related to rule 3, which I would guess is the case for you as automod considered it a support thread from the looks of it:

Quote

Specific Rule 3: Support Removal Reasons

These comments are put on posts we remove under Rule 3 when we believe they will help OP out with the issue they are having.

There was no rule stating that my question is a support question by the rigid rules given, also if the rule is vague then it's not a rule, it is a tool to manipulate what people post.

Black and white logic works with rules for a reason, you know where you stand.

Ergo, moderators on there are being lazy.

Yes so your answer should be; "You should stop using Reddit" which was my suggestion in the title, but thought I would get opinions on that, it seems I had the answer to begin with, thank you, nothing more to see.

Reddit's rules are manipulative and unclear, this has now been established, thank you. I was wrong, they have ulterior motives not laziness, they just expect people to be ok with being controlled without explicitly saying why.

My answer is what I answered above. I don't share the opinion that this is reason to stop using Reddit, so I didn't say that. If you feel the way r/Steam or other subreddit's rules are written do not match the experience you are looking for then by all means stop using Reddit. That's totally fine with me.

If you think every subreddit is run exactly the same manner as this one and this isn't the way you want this to work, then yeah, by all means, stop using Reddit. But what did you expect from publicizing your intended boycott here? A round of applause and cheers? Or should we try to convince you to keep using Reddit after all, that not all communities there are alike? The aim here is quite nebulous and it seems more like you feel slighted here and took it very personally.

Never mind that I take issue with this statement here:

You're really desperately trying to invoke the Air Bud defense here. Besides, laws and rules around society and its communities are often nebulous. If they weren't, lawyers wouldn't exist.

Reddit is a collection of communities, all with their own rules and moderation teams. I think "boycotting" the entire website just because you don't like the rules or moderation team in one subreddit is an overreaction. You're throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

I am sorry that you support thread got deleted on a subreddit which doesn't allow support threads. I think it was kind of the moderator to answer your question though.

I don't really see why you think your original topic needed any more discussion than what the mod provided you with (a link to the best resource for solving exactly what you asked for), nor do I understand what you hope to get out of this specific thread.

What did you think would happen when you made this thread? Did you want people to explain to you how Reddit works? Because it doesn't seem like you like those explanations. Did you think people would just high five you and congratulate you for not visiting a particular website anymore?

It's a good thing I am not a mod, because I wouldn't have been able to resist locking this thread with the message "status update material".

I don't have an account myself, but everytime i read about anything on reddit, it really just looks like a twitter thread. You really have to search hard to find useful information there. But that's what happens with stuff that gets too mainstream.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

OP, your screenshot here isn't entirely clear what you were posting about, but it seems like you did the following:

1. You asked a vague question "Looking to make my non-steam game collection more feature complete"

This probably violates Rule #2 - Unrelated content. You're not asking about Steam or Steam games - you're explicitly asking about non-steam games (and no mention of trying to use the Steam platform at all).

2. You, I think? posted a link to steamgriddb.com? I'm not sure if that was the Mods replying to you, but it seems like you posted that link and they're flagging the link as the primary reason for the thread being locked.

This probably also violates Rule #2. It might also violate Rule #5.

As others have already mentioned, Reddit is not a monolithic thing. Each subreddit has their own rules and their own mods. Each of them is different, and they'll apply the rules in different varying degrees of strictness.

Did you follow the link to appeal the thread lock? It even gives you instructions on how to do that.

I personally do use Reddit, but I stick to a few specific subreddits and don't often venture out of it, because it can be a real shitshow of toxicity and dude-bros and Q-Anon losers, etc.

I *think* the mod posted that link, because the link contains the resources OP was asking for.

So it seems like the moderator used the "reason for removal" box to answer OP's question rather than explain why the thread was deleted.

I used to be on Reddit but it's been a few years since I last logged in and TBH I've forgotten the password and all else - And it's no big loss to me.

Only suggestion I can make is if you don't want to use it, then don't and move on to something else - Life's too short to worry about it too much.

You could go back but then you'd be subject to the same possibly happening all over again so as a fair question to be asked - Why even go back at all?

I mean it's like smaking your head against the wall over and over again and expecting a different result each time - That ain't happening and you can expect the same results all over again if you do continue.

Mods are people too and we all screw up at times, there are no exceptions to that fact of it which includes me and you too.

So - If you did screw up, then I guess you fairly got what was coming to you and failure to recognize it on your part does not constitute fault on their part.

One thing to remember is a Reddit or even a forum like this one is essentially a dictatorship, not a democracy where the members would get a vote about whatever. If there is a vote it's only because it was allowed by the Reddit/Forum and even in that case they don't have to go along with the results - Just how it is.
I've never heard of forum members voting on a candidate running for "Mod" or even "Admin", complete with an election campaign with a string of (Cough - Bullshit - Cough) promises made but if anyone does, let me know so I can see it all for myself.

And with all that being said, the only thing to it is if you're not happy about it you don't have to go back, it's 100% your call and yours alone.
If you do go back, then expect more of the same as a possibility yet again because unfortunately, that's just how it is.

You made a post about where to find images, how is that dumbing down?

Speaking of lazy,  the link the mod gave you was the first result when searching for "steam library images". Who's lazy? I guess you were just to busy to find out yourself?

Forget using Reddit for it's real use then and don't worry when I start using LMGTFY in these forums.

What would you say Reddit's "real use" is?

I would recommend against using LMGTFY links on this forum. Different websites have different rules, and one of the rules on this website is to not post LMGTFY links.

Just because it's potentially allowed on one website does not mean it's allowed on all websites.
