Best silent 140mm rad fan quest :)

PDifolco

Hello mates

I currently use a pair of Arctic P14s on my 280mm CPU rad

They work fine temp wise, but when I need to push them above 1000rpm they make a kinda of hi pitched whine/resonance noise that I don't like at all...

This noise is relatively new, they're 18mo old maybe they kinda not age well, thinking to replace them

So what should I get ? I don't need iPPC style fans that can reach 3000rpm but with a turbine jet noise, what I'd need is some effective rad fan that's still silent (mostly) at 1200 to 1500rpm, which is the maximum I need to keep my CPU below 80c (assuming proper air pressure)

Are Noctuas AF14 good at that ? or BQ SW4s (non Pro) ? Other ?

If you want quiet performance cooling, Noctua is usually the brand of choice

Looking at the product page, the Noctua AF14 will be only 19.2 Db if you use the included low noise adaptor. Should be plenty quiet enough.

Common build advice: 1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticably improve performance past 240mm.

Well, interesting

I'm kinda hesitating even more now, my P14s top the charts and alternatives are 35EUR+ to maybe 8EUR for the P14 (got white version...) 😮

Can u check if the noise goes away if your P14 speed is fixed above 1250 RPM ?

Though if it's a new noise, it's likely they're just at the end of their life 😞

U could try and risk it with the new EK FPT fans (should show up in other shops/amazon 1st/2nd week of January now)

No noise is there above 1000 rpm, but tightening up screws reduced the noise   🙂

Unknown, they at pre-order stages, launching next week and the week after that. Oh and, yeah I'm blind, I didn't noticed the reply chain xD @thrasher_565 was referencing the ARGB ones from Arctic, which like the white EK one can be kept with RGB shut-off, and they still look very nice in white.

Get a 3-pack of the P14 argb versions - supposedly, they don't have that noise issue at 1000rpm.

the noise issue is fix by them using a ring around the fan blades (aka noiseblocker style)

Ok may try that, they're still at a decent price, though wayyy more expensive than base version, 20eur to 8
