why is my 5ghz wifi so much faster then 2.4 ghz from far away.

Jwright753

from my understanding 2.4 can output up to 450 Mbps and has a farther distance and 5 ghz can output up to 1300 Mbps but has a way shorter range. so my question is why am i getting 200+ mbps from 5 ghz but only 90-100 on 2.4 when my pc is on the opposite side of the house far away from the router. ik 5 ghz is faster but im farther away. im very confused.

the 2.4Ghz band is VERY crowded.  Wireless remotes, bluetooth, cordless phones, wireless security, microwaves, most wireless mice/keyboards...the list is endless of things that use 2.4Ghz band.  You're likely getting interference on that band.  Also, how many other devices are competing for bandwidth on that spectrum?  I've had certain channels of 2.4 be unusable in apartments because 10 other people's routers were on the default channel (6 usually).

if you're getting better connection on the 5Ghz, stick with it.
