Silverstone will launch new psus with a new form factor called "SFX-L"

Silverstone had launched some excellent SFX power supply in the last few yrs. But it seems it is not enough for them. Last Saturday they have a showcase of their new products in Japan, and in addition of showcasing their new cases and psus, they also have announced a new psu called "SX500-LG", which is based on a new form factor called "SFX-L".

"SFX-L" is based on SFX form factor. But instead of SFX's usual 100mm long with a 80mm fan, "SFX-L" will be 130mm long, such that they could fit a 120mm fan in the psu.

Tony Ou, Silverstone's tech representative, post some additional comments about this psu @hardforum:

Now that we've publicly announced the SX500-LG (sorry, the sticker on that sample PSU was also incorrect!), I can share more details with you guys here:

- We are calling this PSU "SFX-L" form factor to avoid confusion with our current SFX models. There will be SilverStone cases that will fit SFX, but not SFX-L PSU like the SX500-LG.

- The width and height of SX500-LG is exactly the same as a standard SFX PSU (but deeper by 30mm) so they use the same mounting holes on cases.

- Semi-fanless feature is included, fan will spin when internal PSU temperature reaches 41C.

- Maximum speed for PSU fan is around 1500rpm

- PP05-E style cables will be included with SX500-LG

Price and availability are currently unknown!

Although Tony said price and availability is still unknown, Japanese Media Akiba PC reported that the 600w version of this new psu will be released in June, while the 500w version will be released in July.

Yay this would be great for the lap-desk-top proof of concept I am making. Currently have an SFX in there and some room infront of it, so this would work great!

edit: aw dam they extended the part I didn't want them to extend, whatevs :P back to SFX

Oh, cool. This is going to be very good for some specific niche builds.

Quite interested in what people come up with.

Hell, I might try something myself.

Thanks for the post!

More m-itx and small form factor products are always welcome. Now if we can get some more AMD m-itx boards, that would be great.

I very much like the concept of powerful portable machines, products like these will further that.

I've wanted for some time now to build a tiny PC with high grade innards (not a laptop) that I can take around with me.

I was just thinking to myself that there hasn't been any advancements in PSU tech for quite some time now. I know Corsair has made some crazy efficient PSUs, but this direction of making them as compact as possible actually seems interesting. In every build I see or think up myself, I can't help but feel like the current size and bulkiness of PSUs make them a bit of an eye sore.

  • 6 months later...

Shame that only m-ITX case makers are really pushing case volume down. I would like to see some m-ATX cases start using SFX PSUs to fit more HDDs.

I am on m-ITX myself as of now, but next upgrade I sure as hell won't be, no single GPU gets up to my standards with Star Citizen.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

You could get a dual GPU card on mITX? There isn't one right now apart from maybe Titan Z but it would get you there?

Looks like this PSU is out now?

come on... 600 watts... if you could fit 600 into normal SFX then you can fit at least 700 into SFX-L
