Dust free case - are they real?

Hello,

I'l looking for a dustproof case. A quick search yielded tons of "top 10 dustproof blah blah" articles, but looking at the recommendations these cases are full of holes. (Edges and back mostly.)

I would think that no amount of mesh at the intake fans is going to stop dust particles from finding their way into the case.

(I have an age old Cooler Master HAF case, with holes on the sides and top. The intake has a mesh covering. Utter bullshit, the case is full of dust, as expected.)

My secondary objective is to build a silent PC, but that is mostly about components from what I read. But the case can help.

My questions:

1. Am I wrong, do I just need a simple case with filters and make sure to build positive pressure through the meshed intakes?

2. A simple mesh is enough, or are there more serious filters?

3. Can you recommend cases? What should I look for?

4. The question on top: Is this possible? Dustproof case with some sound isolation with still good airflow for the not actively cooled components?

Thank you!

I'd say 1 and 2 🙂

Only solution to have a dust free PC is to hermetically close it, but it'll become an oven then, which is way worse

More "serious" filters tend to do the same, once they're covered in dust they block airflow

It's eventually as if you wished for a dust free home, not possibe, you just have to clean it regularly!

I do recommend getting a simple electric air duster for that, rather than using compressed air (more expensive in the long run, plus you don't have it anymore when needed ,etc)

At this point this dustproof home case seems to be bullshit to me. I could go some extreme industrial grade thing, but that would be stupid for home use.

Oh well, thanks. Air duster is a good idea, I'll probably get one.

I have noticed that a PC I have sitting on a shelf 5 feet off the ground

gets almost no dust compare to a PC directly below it at 2 feet off the ground.

Get elevated.

I've found, at least with my 5000D, elevation doesn't matter in respect to intake dust. Then again when we're talking about 'dust' I hardly mean anything. Just get some good filters; you're going to be stacking dust up top anyway but it's a simple microfiber wipe. Just stay away from the color black, it's a dust magnet.

Or! I’m just throwing this out here..

You could sweep a little more, keep up with your furnace filter maintenance, vacuum a little more often with a quality vac such as a Dyson maybe 🙂

The inside of your case is a reflection of the environment that it’s in 👍🏻

This might surprise you, but not everyone on the internet is a 17 year old slob.

No matter how often you clean, a case, especially one on the floor, is going to accumulate dust.

I totally agree 😄

I have my case a few feet off the floor, it still grabs dust, but it's not bad. And I have a Metro Datavac ED500, so I really don't care about dust at all.
