i want an rtx 3060 12gb so i can use dlss for a 4k monitor can my 500 watt psu handle the power requirements for one?

What model 3060? What else is in your PC?

Generally the 3060 recommends 550W.

the 12gb model cause i want to double my vram from 6gb with my currentl 6gb vram 1660 ti to a 12 gb 3060

all 3060 is 12GB. And its not suitable for 4K gaming despite having 12GB Vram

my 1660 ti is a 1080p king double that and you get 4k i could definetly do 4k with a 3060

Your 500W is too small.

You're going to need 550W.

4K is 4 times 1080p, not 2

Sure, DLSS will help, but then you are not actually playing in 4K. DLSS renders the game in a lower resolution(1440, 1080p etc.) and upscales it to 4K

i dont have to play the games at the maximum settings to achieve 4k60fps

4k is 4x the pixel of 1080p. 4k medium 60 is achievable but thats about it.

Sure, I just dont get the logic here. Its like building a really fancy double garage to only using it for a Nissan Micra.

The 3060 is a excellent card for 1080p and its good in 1440p, but I wouldn't buy it if the argument its for 4K gaming. For that I would at least save up for a 3070 class card, dont be deceived by the 12 GB of VRAM

Evga 500w means nothing as they have quite bad psus like the w1 which wont handle a 3060 well

i heard the gtx 1080 ti can play 4k games when games around its time was released like 4k fallout 4

my current pc specs are an 8700k cpu 1660 ti gpu 32gb of ram

Check your supply against the tier list. If its decent quality, then simply try it.

 

A good PSU, if overloaded, will shut down gracefully.

 

I run a CX550M with a 3060Ti and overclocked 4930k with zero issues.

Yeah, and 1660 TI would run on 350W, I got 6600XT and am on 700W psu having 100W of room. Like I said, for 3060 I'd go for 700-1000W psu

This is just the usual nonsense that gets perpetuated around PSUs. A 1660TI draws around 120w. The 3060 draws around 170.

 

So if a 1660ti is happy on a 350w PSU, why would a card that draws 50w more suddenly require a 700w unit?

 

A 3060 is not a power hungry card and 500w is plenty, so long as its a quality 500w unit and not trash tier.

If you put a 1080TI in that machine, you won't be happy with 4K experience.

 

4K/60 at low/medium isn't near as fun to play a game as 1440p/60 High or 1080p/120 Ultra.
