First Water Cooled Mac Studio

AlexTheGreatish

How good of a job did Apple do with the cooling on the Mac Studio?? Well it definitely isn't as good as our custom water cooling solution, I can tell you that much.

Hey, an informative title right off the bat and a thumbnail that's eye catching but still straight-forward and not embarassing. I say keep up with that.

And, there is no need to oversell the video as something that is more interesting than the video actually is. Letting this and other videos be interesting as a merit of the subject of the video, and not just because of some bright colors and vague wording.

Apple Silicon is awesome, imagine if they built SBC, for makers to use and experiment with for cool projects like this.

Dreams...

Will there also be a episode where you guys take it to SUB-0 and see what the performance is then?

I most get a kick out of what LTT mentioned in the comments: that it took running the system at full tilt for 2.5 hours to see a noticeable difference over the stock cooling system. Part of that is due to the heat spreaders and turbo speeds, as mentioned, but I'd still say it's a testament to Apple's power control. I know I'd rather have a Mac Studio in a backroom server closet (admittedly not super common) than a furnace-like Intel tower.

I was thinking something more like RPi or Arduino for makers for the home automation/robotics/ML&AI.

yer take the mainboard from a M1 Mini... about the same size as a RPi with a load of IO for a board this size.

Really cool vid! This is something I would try myself if I had Mac Studio.

Phone 1 (Daily Driver): Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G

Phone 2 (Work): Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G 256gb

Laptop 1 (Production): 16" MBP2019, i7, 5500M, 32GB DDR4, 2TB SSD

Laptop 2 (Gaming): Toshiba Qosmio X875, i7 3630QM, GTX 670M, 16GB DDR3

  • 1 year later...

I'm rewatching this.

I want to build a Mac Studio/Mac Mini into my Windows desktop gaming pc. If the PC is on, the Mac is on.

I think air cooling is still better, though. Wonder if the internals of the M2 Mac Studio could fit in some free spaces in my computer case...
