AMD’s Ryzen 7000 series has been hotly anticipated from its first whisper. Now, it promises to beat Intel at their own game – And with lower power draw to boot. And they teased RDNA3!

Yea this is a long shot but Linus you guys have to post an update video and discuss this main issue because AMD completely lied to us during the conference instead of using a neutral gpu like a 3090ti (since Nvidia doesn’t favor a brand of cpu over another) they used a 6950xt with SAM turned on which basically just throws out every benchmark that has to do anything to do with graphics that AMD showed vs the 12900k from what I'm guessing is the 7950x problem performs equal or worse than the 12900k

I'm not sure this is much of an issue as you are thinking. From how that reads, it looks like Intel had reizable BAR enabled, too. And from what it looked like they were doing the comparisons at 1080p, so really making it CPU-bottlenecked. Though, as always, we'll have to wait for the reviews to start coming in.

It's kind of stupid that you only get Gen5 support for the GFX if you buy the extreme board but the NVMe slot has it on all boards, it should have been the other way around.

Why is that stupid? Strongly suggests that RDNA3 will be on PCIE 4.0 and Ada Lovelace seems to be 4.0 based off current rumors and leaks. Even current GPUs have a very hard time fully saturating 4.0 x8 and practically none saturate 4.0 x16. It's a good cost savings measure. If 5.0 drives are going to come out before 5.0 gpus it makes even more sense.

A simple example, I have an old IB-E system I use as a second machine.  That system has a PCI-E Gen 3.0 GPU slot (the first series of boards to come with them) but the slots used for NVMe are only Gen 2.0.  This isn't a massive problem as Gen 3.0 can still run a high end GPU fine but if the slot was only 2.0 then bottlenecking would rear it's ugly head.  On the flip side an increase to the Gen the NVMe drives are running on from Gen2 to Gen3 wouldn't make much of a real world difference outside of CrystalDiskMark (Hell I'm not going to lie, I don't even notice a performance diff between 2000MB/S and 5000MB/S).

 

To be clear I know that in the future things like Direct Storage will make NVMe speeds more important, But it's going to be many many years before that becomes commonplace and I think FPS will still be more important than load times.

That's the thing though. If Direct Storage is utilized properly, it will directly effect FPS (for 1% lows, anyway) as new assets are constantly loaded in, rather than having clear level/map demarcations.

Yea this is a long shot but Linus you guys have to post an update video and discuss this main issue because AMD completely lied to us during the conference instead of using a neutral gpu like a 3090ti (since Nvidia doesn’t favor a brand of cpu over another) they used a 6950xt with SAM turned on which basically just throws out every benchmark that has to do anything to do with graphics that AMD showed vs the 12900k from what I'm guessing is the 7950x problem performs equal or worse than the 12900k

Im lost.... both because it doesnt matter if its a 3090ti or a 6950xt, and because both CPUs support and utilize ReBar, and if you have the option, it should be turned on.
