The bill was passed by a vote of 69 to 27. It still has to go through The House which is republican controlled and a great many republicans don't approve of this bill. The bill does, however have the support of Pres. Obama. I'm very interested to see where this goes. I don't understand the legalese of the bill so would someone with greater knowledge of the issue tell me if this would affect international companies such as NCIX? If so, I might change where I buy things online.

From what I have read, anything you buy online is applicable and the site has to charge you your states sales tax.  One thing that you brought up however that I haven't thought about was international companies.  Not sure on that one...  Will be interesting to see how this all pans out and how long it will take everything to go into effect.

you are already required to do this anyways, it just isnt enforced. you're supposed to include it in your taxes when you file, but nobody enforces it.

I live on the border of TN and VA but on the TN side. Newegg has a center in TN so if you buy in TN you have to pay shipping. So any time i order from newegg i ship it to a friends place in VA. lol. I go through all that just to not pay the tax. So yea that will reallllllly suck if it goes all the way through

It's interesting to me how many people think online purchases not being taxed is some kind of right... Yeah it sucks to have to pay more tax but did you really think it was going to last forever? In Canada we are already being charged tax on out of province purchases unless we carry them over the border.

As for international purchases, the same issues will be there for that too. Canadians are used to it but import duties and brokerage fees will make the trivial tax amounts look pretty good a lot of the time

Yeah, I've never felt like it was some kind of right. But if I can buy things untaxed, I'm going to as long as I can haha. If we were to start getting taxed, I wouldn't be as mad as just sad I won't be saving as much money.

Edit: On a side note, my sales tax in my state is about 6.5%. On a $2,000 P.C. That's about $130 of taxes.

coming from people who don't want to support brick and mortor places, and preffered to shop online it was a incentive to order online in the first place. you don't support corporate giants and you have cheaper options.

now with the introduction of taxing it will be cheaper to support those brick and mortors, even though the end user may not want to. lets be honest, internet stores have higher pricing, but you don't have to pay taxes and state fee's and all that crap.

but in store you get discounts you wouldn't usually get. but you have to pay taxes and yadda yadda. that means paying the same amount, but also supporting the corporate system and the great old us of a. many could see this in a negative light, and be further dissuaded from legitimacy, which means either stealing, or going craigslist when you can't get free software, and letting the extravagant dummies buy the hardware then buy it once they move on to the next big item, which means less profits for the economy.

taxing does nothing positive and everything negative to smart buyers.

Personally, I would prefer not to be charged tax on digital goods. It just doesn't feel right to be charged tax on items that can simply be deleted by the click of a button or if servers shut down(like Steam). If I can save money, I will. If I can't save money, then I'll find the cheapest and most effective solution.
