Which is better 1 fan or 4

ITZJOK3RII

So my case can support 140mm fans and I was wondering if 4 small 80mm fans with two brackets between two fans for support would give me more cooling or would the amount of power used just not be worth it. So all fans in this would run at 2000rpm weather it's the 140mm of the 4 80mm. Ps I love love to see linus and the team run this as a test and if u put multiple fans behind each other.

Generally fewer bigger fans will be better.

A bigger fan will move more air at the same rpm normally as the blades are moving much faster.

even if it would somehow provide more cooling (let's entertain that idea) it definitely wouldn't be worth the added noise those tiny, whiny fans add

4x 80mm fans.

Math.

Obviously setup is key too, but for air movement at a given rpm... 4x 80mm fans move 1/3 more air.

Do the calculation for air movement.  It's not as simple as more fans.

80mm fans spin faster then an 140mm fan so 1 80mm fan will have more noise then a 140mm fan then you add 3 more and well each fan added adds to the noise level

but 80mm fans have better static pressure so in theory should be better on a radiator that is restricted...

keep in mind that specks on the box are not  accurate so... hens the guess of witch fan might be better...

The math isn't as simple as you'd think.

If there's a 3mm border on each side (between frame and air gaps) then you'd have 12mm of boundary on the 80mm fans and only 6mm of boundary on the 140mm fan.
So the "fan" size would be 160-12 = 148 vs. 140-6 = 134mm.

This is about a 10% difference (about 20% in area). But it's not that simple because the inner part of the fan doesn't scale linearly. Also there's 4 sets of bearings (so more friction)...

All in all it's NOT a trivial question of saying "bigger is better".

if you have the means to test it well test it simple as that we all be wrong before haha. if its a restricted grill then the 80mm should be better thow way louder

but do the test so its fare like use a static presher 140mm fan.

It's why I want linus to do it coz I just don't have the equipment or funds to do the test. The one thing I find is my gpu getting to hot and I think its due to not getting enough air. And due to it being a lp card u can't get aftermarket heatsinks and coolers or aio to fit

All you need is the fans and any free temp monitoring software.

well there the zip tie mod to attach a fan to the gpu work wonders if you want to take your gpu apart that is.

I uave looked at the zip tie idea and I just don't trust them not to melt or not give proper contact to the gpu and and ram

Its fans they dont need proper contact. Close enough is good. And if zipties would melt on a 80c heatsink wed have a lot more problems with them 😛

So because of the size of the card and the screw holes the heat sink on it touchs all most the whole card. So there's no where to tie to. It a gtx 1050ti low profile

If you cant zip tie or fit fans then well you have to use something smaller
