1080ti upgrade path

Hunlight

Hello,

So the time comes where I would need to upgrade my 1080ti for something fresh and more powerful. I ugpraded my main monitor to ultrawide 1440p last year and yeah fps dropped drastically. if on 1080p 16:9 with 1080ti I was a perfectly fine. now I usually have 50-70fps range on medium settings in games. I barely play any shooters that usually have 200 fps, only Hunt showdown in which I barely have 70fps~ and on lowest settings 90~ or so. Other single player games fps can go down to 30~ back up to 50-60 on medium settings. So yes gpu is barely hanging there.

Please suggest what would be "reasonable" upgrade. I can probs sell my 1080ti local for like 350 eur maybe tops 400. so adding another 300~ would be able to buy either 2080ti or 3070ti both perform similarly, but is it worth the upgrade over 1080ti? Should I wait longer for 3080? (price now over 1000 eur out here and 12gb version around 1200eur~) not talking about 3080ti which would be ideal as its priced something around 1500~ or so.

What do you think guys? Should I go for 3070ti? 300eur investment is not small thats why Im curious what others think about 1080ti vs 3070ti for ultrawide 1440p (def better but is it worth it?)

3070ti is about a 35% performance increase (with less VRAM).  But you can get more with DLSS.  Are you sure you can get 350 for the old card?  Prices have crated for all used cards.  I've seen people get a 3090ti for like $800!

I would just hold on. I got the same card, and i'm waiting for 4000 series to see how prices will be. The only thing I would upgrade to is 3080 or better. About x2 the speed of 1080ti. Most like more like 40% in most instances. 930 eur here in denmark, so not that expensive, I'm uncertain if it ever gets cheaper.

in my country 3090 costs over 2000eur 😞 and in used market 1080ti selling from 250 up to 600 (sold orders list) so 350-400 is reasonable I would say.

as per latest updates 30 series will possibly only go up now as nvidia stopping their production to sell out stocks before 40 series (Which by rumors from nvidia associates would drop with higher msrp). So yeah I would def go for 3080 or higher but prices are insane and can even go higher 30070ti does look good with bump in performance where 1080ti got 40fps it got 60+. 3080 or 3080ti does sound better but I doubt prices in my country will drop as low as 800~ someone mentioned.

I would recommend waiting, either for RTX4000 or RX7000, whichever ends up being more interesting; I too am in the 1080Ti bandwagon and I intend to wait.

A 3060Ti is approximately as powerful as our card? And the rumours suggest that RTX4000 will be a noticeable performance bump, because RX6000 actually scared nVidia (competition is lovely), so a 4060Ti//4070 should be a relatively affordable upgrade for good performance uplift.

That being said, 4060Ti//4070 cards probably won't release until early 2023 -- whether you can wait that long, only you can answer.

yeee, kinda sounds like a truth but yeah waiting a whole year while now playing some games with 30-40 fps is just terrible. and no one knows whats gonna be then, maybe situation with prices will be as bad as now.

I can wait a few months too not in that much hurry, but not a year or so. will think about 3070ti while seeing if 3080 will drop price.

You must pay, with your kidney. 1100 eur for a 3080 ti in germany, not bad: https://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/12GB-Gigabyte-GeForce-RTX-3080-Ti-Gaming-OC-Aktiv-PCIe-4-0-x16-_1415228.html

I agree you shouldn't go for less than a 3080 (I'm also using a 3440x1440p, and a 3080 is "needed" for decent framerate..)

In the EU you can get a 3080 for as low as 850 EUR right now, here : https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=20982&awinaffid=927601&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pccomponentes.com%2Finno3d-geforce-rtx-3080-ichill-x4-lhr-10gb-gddr6x

Or a 6800XT same price https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B09NM7WMXG?tag=dropreferen00-21&linkCode=osi&th=1&psc=1&tag=dropreferen00-21

My upgrade path was GTX 1080 ti, 2080 ti. 3080 ti and 3090 ti.

I had a 3080 10gb for a while and would have kept it if it was a 12gb version.

Here is the difference in frames between them in Shadow of the Tomb Raider at the highest preset with an i9 9900k.

SOTTR            1440p

GTX 1080 ti       88fps

RTX 2080 ti     133fps

RTX 3080        144fps

RTX 3080 ti     154fps

The i9 9900k was past its limit with the 3080 ti so this is how it did with a 5800x. With a 2080 ti they both produced the same results.

RTX 3080 ti     163fps

Keeping the same core count of 8 the i9 11900k takes over since I replaced the 5800x with a 5900x.

RTX 3080 ti     162fps

RTX 3090 ti     175fps

As you can see CPU choice does matter.

As for waiting.

I think this is it.

All indicators point to things becoming less affordable in the future.

It does not matter how good the 40 series is if I don't have the money to spend on a hobby.

the best deals i've seen are 6800xt for 675, 3080 for 760, and 3080ti for 950, (3080ti is about double fps from a 1080ti) and 6950xt for 950, imho amd is better for 1440p but then it'd be an amd gpu. If prices look ok to you, i'd recommend just buying now

i'm expecting the 4070 to be 700usd and be about the same as a 3080ti, guessing it'd spill into Q2 next year before we can get our hands on them.

used are as expensive as new out here. barely any difference. people even selling cards after mining for almost same price as new 😄

Someone from Europe. can suggest a good EU pc parts shop that has low shipping  costs with delivery to Lithuania. I see people saying seeing quite low prices on 3080 or 3080ti so wonder if with shipping would still be much cheaper.

Hello,

When I was browsing, I saw some from Spain (on US ebay).  I'm sure there are some from other EU countries.  They were pretty good price but probably increases risk.  Definitely makes sure you have buyer protection.

dont think microcenter ships here same as newegg. I saw some on ebay, but usually ebay got very high shipping to my country and also who knows who sells it how is it and so on. if smth then shipping back is a nightmare procedures out here months on months.
