Team Red...or Team Green...!?!?!

Hey guys I'm currently looking on upgrading my video card and debating between these 2...

SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X R9 290 4GB GDDR5 TRI-X OC

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1227&pid=2167&psn=&lid=1&leg=0

or........

EVGA GeForce GTX 780 w/ EVGA ACX Cooler

http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=03G-P4-2782-KR

I currently run on a single 1080p monitor and may upgrade to a 4k in the future (If I have the money) I know this is overkill but I rather buy something that will be.....dare I say "Future Proof" for a good while!

Any suggestions are welcome, thanks for your time :D

Don't know what pricing is like in your area, but here the 780 is more powerful, the 280X is cheaper. Both are great cards, so it might be worth making the call based on which features you want. Mantle or GeForce experience etc. etc. etc. since that topic has been done to death already

Yeah, I'm gonna go 290 in my upcoming build just because it's better at high-res gaming, and I really want a triple monitor setup in the future, and it's gonna be a few years before I can upgrade my GPU again. The future is in UHD and I hate to use the word "future proof," so lets say the 290 is more "future mindful."

I think AMD fans will have their bias opinion and NVIDIA fans will have theirs. You just need people like @ericlee30 who can give a true opinion and just say "Go with what you think is best" kind of thing. I also think @Symbiote that you should go with whichever GPU suits your needs best. There's no bias opinion here. :P

No offence to anyone. :D

Honestly, its up to you. You can ask all of us for our opinions and let us throw numbers in the form of prices and benchmarks and FPS counts. But what really matters, however, is what your personally looking for. Both "teams" have their own set of features. If you like one teams features over the other, that should help you decide. There was a thread floating around on this subforum called "Should we still be recommending 780tis?" (or close to that). There were a number of good points brought up in that thread. The prevalent collective opinion seems to be simply buy what you both like and can afford.

In short: v

I am whatever I am.

Don't listen to anybody who makes sweeping generalizations like Nvidia sucks or AMD is useless etc...

Both companies happen to make good products. Which has resulted in good competition over the years and us the consumers benefit from that.

Personally I like AMD.

Buy a EVGA GTX 780 6GB SC w/ ACX Cooler - $559.  That 6GB VRAM will be nice for Ultra 4k Gaming.

Both are great cards, and can do gaming, even surround gaming, pretty well. Go with the one that your guts tell you to get, since you can't lose with either. Push comes to shove, I'd go with the Sapp 290 Tri-X, I prefer AMD....

From what I've seen the two perform similarly at 1080p, but the 290 better at higher resolutions. It's also cheaper. That spare cash could let you budget for a better different part or just knock down the overall price a little.

Perhaps it's different where you are, but from my perspective I am struggling to see what sets the 780 apart from the 290.
