Where are you and where are you looking? last I checked it was in stock at Newegg US https://www.newegg.com/intel-core-i3-12100f-core-i3-12th-gen/p/N82E16819118357?Item=N82E16819118357&nm_mc=AFC-RAN-COM&cm_mmc=AFC-RAN-COM&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_source=afc-PCPartPicker&AFFID=2558510&AFFNAME=PCPartPicker&ACRID=1&ASID=https%3a%2f%2fpcpartpicker.com%2f&ranMID=44583&ranEAID=2558510&ranSiteID=8BacdVP0GFs-cFzyZdVFLl6d5HXOoVQNeg

Still, it comes back in stock regularly enough that I'd just wait till it comes back in stock.

Getting an 11th gen would be stupid as you would not be able to upgrade to 12 gen.

may just as well go with ryzen, they dropped the prices on 5600 recently and should be in stock.

5600 and 5600x are $200, or you can get older generation Ryzen 5500 for $150.

I would like to go Ryzen but a 3600 here is more expensive than an I5-12400f

I didn't say 3600.

Anyway, 5600 and 5600x and 5500 are 6 core / 12 threads. There's also Ryzen 4500 which is 6 core / 12 threads but based on older Zen series.

There's also 4 core / 8 threads processors and processors with integrated graphics.

Also pay attention, the link you posted for the 12100F doesn't say anything about cooler, not sure you get a stock cooler.  You get a decent, usable, stock cooler with AMD processors.

And you probably get a more decent motherboard for the money, or cheaper motherboard.... so don't look strictly at the CPU price, look at the whole CPU+cooler+motherboard package price.

Even the Ryzen 5500 was similar to the I5-11400f and the motherboard here costs more, The I3-12100f bundles either have a h610 board or the bad gigabyte b660 and the I3-12100f comes with the original box so the stock fan was in there as well.
