Thought I got lucky, purchased a 3080TI

FaceFoiled

After waiting for a very long time, I finally purchased a 3080ti at good value!

Figured my current CPU ( AMD 5600x) would be bottlenecked, so splashed for the new AMD7 5800X3D as well (should be delivered today!).

It seems it was all for naught, as the GPU turned out to be a bust. Despite ordering it from Amazon directly (not a retailer on amazon), I was delivered a 2080TI.. or so I thought. Thought it was an honest mistake at first, rang up to have it sorted out. Replacement not available, sold out - return to refund. So I get to packing it up to refund - huh that's odd, the sticker on the side does say 3080ti.. let's open it up just in case!

Hmm, this is not a GPU at all.. at least I have a new CPU now?

Slightly gutted.

(wearing shorts in the picture, apologies for my hairy knee :D)

All I can say is, even though Amazon sold you this directly, they knew what they were doing. Some poor sap who doesn't know any better is going to have this happen to them and not know to return it.

Looks like chipboard/pressboard (don't know the correct english word for that, sorry :D) to me. Probably to add some weight.

not sure if correct word was used, therefore added another one

Well Amazon is sadly know for these Problems which is why i dont buy expensive stuff on it. I have heard multiple issues about TCGs like Magic the gathering boosters that were resealed after picking out the rares and that hasent changed for years.
Just try to not order from amazon and most importantly do not open the box when you allready see that there is something wrong with it straight up return it.

Had to call the police and it took forever for them to refund him because they said he switched the tv out.

Had this with Media Markt here. We bought a NEW 32 inch tv. Got home and it was a very used beat up not new one. Took weeks and eventually government agencies and others to finally get them to accept it back. Worst case they gave us in store credit at first but in the end we got the money back. Only cost them about 20k in fees over a 400€ tv :p. Oh and bonus it turned out the tv was switched in the backroom so an employee got a far better one. These were both in box returns.

So you see even when the correct product does come back it can still be moved around.

Did not have any hassle with the refund in the end, I was a bit skeptical that they did not want it returned or anything. I feel like this incident was not really taken seriously by Amazon CS, but obviously I cannot tell what goes on over there. Really do hope they investigate whatever happened here and not just close the case at the refund, to try and prevent this from happening again.

Found a few more decent offers for the RTX 3080Ti, but all on Amazon *(very low volume here in Ireland, and non at or near MSRP). AMD announced their new card though, and managed to snag that from the AMD store directly itself. So will have the AMD Radeon™ RX 6950 XT in the next few days now. 🙂

Will see how it plays with the AMD7 5800X3D! 😄

Aye it's running nicely so far, though playing games that don't really need it .:P That's beside the point though! 😄

Will need to look into cooling though, it's getting mighty toasty.
