[PSA] Samsung QD-OLED not as bright and rich vs LG as some may think.

So Vincent (HDTVtest) recently released a video showing how Samsungs new QD-OLED TVs seem to be using detection algorithms to adjust calibration to pass tests and reviews, then crank up gamma and saturation in normal content to 'bamboozle' customers/normies into thinking their product is significantly better than their competitors ( LG OLEDs)

 

Basically when running test patches of 5% 10% etc, the TV detects these and uses a internal accurate calibration profile to pass the tests, but when showing normal content or even uncommon test patch sizes like 9%, it will use a far less accurate profile with higher gamma, and higher saturation colors making the image look far more vivid, but absolutely not accurate even in a user selected 'filmMaker profile'.

 

 

I hope this 'news' gets enough traction to convince Samsung to release a firmware update to fix this. The whole point of profiles like FilmMaker Mode is to stay true to the creators intent.

Gotta love Vincent. Dang Samsung. I wouldn't really mind such a function in a separate mode, or even the normal mode, but doing this in a supposed accurate mode like flimmaker-mode is bad. I'm curious to see how (if) Samsung will respond to this.

Makes me feel a bit better waiting for the 42 inch c2.  I've considered the 48inch c1 but it just seems way too much with all of my testing.  Although I'm still considering it since there is a 15 day return period...

You'd expect to still have a mode that is most accurate regardless of out of the box. Yes, unfortunately normies don't know any better and just get attracted to brighter and more saturated, like a fly. In a way, can't blame samsumg marketing it like so even though it's not the best practice, ruins standards but people are noobs so yeah.

Most people don't even mess with the settings at all!
