Buying a new router.

Whats a good idea router that will help do better download and upload speed for my internet i have 1 gig internet and i have the router wifi combo that they gave me that i pay monthly for so just looking to get a better one that will do a better job then the one i have know if anyone can give me some ideas. Not only that i have a white gateway wifi extender that is with my router combo that helps get me internet to other rooms in my house.
