Question on lan and wifi

i would just like to know 

games like the old warcraft 3 frozen throne LAN 

so how can i make 2 pcs "SEE" each other as on lan to play it as lan when one pc is on the other place on the world

There are applications that do a fake network or stuff like that.

I remember Hamachi being used by friends that did lan games over internet.
