The law came into effect in September 2021, after South Korea decided the likes of Google and Apple wield too much power to set prices, and skim fees, and that developers and innovation are therefore harmed.

 

My thoughts

Just like this is going to happen in Europe. this is nothing but good news. EVERY platform should be allowing 3rd party payment methods that 100% circumvent the stores payment method.

 

If those companies do not like it they should be fined to oblivion, and have Sanctions pulled against them, not limited to the FORCED closure of existing datacenters, and property they own in said countries.

I sure hope google thinks it cannot fail at this point because the sheer loudness of the thud from them falling is going to be so epic to hear. Haven't heard a nice booming thud since facebook decided to go all in on a vr chat knockoff.

Not only Google, If these laws pass, then they will be either forced to release it worldwide, as the ball started rolling.

 

Or they are making a exclusive version for their system that only works in Korea, and the EU

Imagine going to a superstore, filling your cart with groceries, getting to the cashier and presenting her cash/credit card/debit card, and the cashier going "no, no sir, we only accept superstore card, which you can get at the entrance of the mall"

Ridiculous right? And yet I'm confident some on this forum would defend it under the guise of "their platform, their rules"

Exactly, just look at 2 other topics regarding 3rd party payments that I posted.

Even if they do not live in said country, or even in that region, they still defend those shitty practices.

 

Not forgetting in that Superstore example everything is also 30% more expensive as a "service fee"

Someone has to pay for the storage, and surely it can't be covered by the monthly rent fee store inside the mall pay. Also processing payments has costs and superstore card being the only choice makes it harder for superstore to process everything. And let's not forget taxation, the complicated,  hard, taxation.

The only place in the world where  TAXES are hard, is the USA.

In the rest of the world they are Easier than going to the Grocery store
