if you have to spend less than 200usd for new ram i recommend these, only if u can't overclock your current sticks.

Greetings LTT Forum,

This is my first post here on the forum so I'm sorry if it's not in the right caregory but i think this should be the right one. Anyhow, to my question:

I'm mostly playing Rust and i know it's a game that isn't optimized at it's finest, but I'm only getting avg 60-80fps and my duo I'm playing with is getting avg 80-110fps when we are on the same server, same position looking at the same direction. To my knowledge (Maybe I'm wrong idk) we should have around the same performance? So I'm wondering, what could i do to make my computer push slightly higher frames?

I coudn't help noticing that almost every TimeSpy test with similar spec is running faster ram, from 3200 to 4200Mhz. Could my computer get a slight boost if i purchase something like Kingston 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3600MHz CL17.

I don't think i need the 32GB that i have right now since I'm only gaming and I'm running maximum of 10 tabs on chrome when browsing hence why I'm looking for faster 16gb sticks.

Iam willing to spend anything for a slight performance boost or is my CPU just old and outdated and i need to swap everything? 😞

And no, I'm not limited by thermals and i keep the computer free from dust at all times.

My Timespy test: https://www.3dmark.com/spy/27345191
Comparison: https://www.3dmark.com/compare/spy/27345191/spy/24784404/spy/22999205/spy/23116898/spy/25941686/spy/25570781#

My friends spec: Ryzen 5 5600X, RX 6700 XT, Corsair DDR4 3600MHz.
My spec: i9 9900K, RTX 3070 LHR, Corsair DDR4 2666MHz.

Thanks in advance

Sincerely, Ice

Check ram dies with thaiphoon burner, no need to throw out ram when you can just overclock it

Isnt my sticks capped @ 2666MHz?

What do you mean with OC them more?

I have XMP on.

manually overclock them to a higher speed, if you got good ics then 4000mhz+ is possible

Use thaiphoon burner to verify what ram ic you have, since its not crucial ballistix it isnt guaranteed to be 1 specific ic/ic brand, you could have hynix, samsung, nanya, etc. Ics on that ram

Unfortunately you got garbage rams, dont expect more than 3466mhz

Itll do fine for 3200mhz though so no need to buy new rams, id suggest looking at hynix mfr overclocking threads

Yeah that's what i thought, I'm not really looking to push these sticks but thanks anyways. Which ram sticks would you suggest for my i9 9900k z390?

I'm willing to pay up to $200 for a better pair of sticks

Theres no reason to go over 3200 since your rams will do that just fine, you are paying for less than 5% performance increase

Looks good but very hard to get Ripjaws in Sweden, almost impossible 😕

Closest i could find was:
G.Skill 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600MHz CL14 for $399

You need to manual overclock not just some stupid bios auto overclocking garbage thats never gonna work

The hynix mfr ocing threads have all the info you need

Can't be bothered really, thanks anyways. Ordered 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600MHz CL18. Even if i get avg +5fps I'm happy ngl.

Bruh atleast get ballistix cause it does 4000 cl16 with just a lazy overclock and all the way to 4500+ cl18 if you are willling to tune it

Though if you got corsair rams just hope theyre samsung b die cause atleast even if you get meh b die it wont suck too bad for ocing, just gotta crank the volt cause meh b die is pretty meh (upto 1.7v is fine but 1.5v if you dont put a fan over your rams)

I would definitely upgrade to 3200mhz cl16. I also play rust a lot and have an average of 110 to 140 fps. I have an i9 9900k and rtx 3090. I recently upgraded to the corsair vengence 3600mhz cl16 with the tiniest 3dmark improvement of 50-100 points(not worth the extra money). Another thing I would do if I were you is mount your gpu off the pci slot to see if your temps improve. Lower Temps on these rtx cards make a big difference. Can you post your 3dmark score? This score is with my new corsair 3600mhz cl16 at 1.4v.

Update: I have now received the new 3600 sticks and now I'm getting about 90-130fps with settings: quality 5/6 & max render distance and without DLSS at 1440p. Feels much smoother and seems to have helped a lot! 🙂
