Can't use bold, italics, underscore, etc... on mobile

LloydLynx

Browser, version and OS:

https://www.whatsmybrowser.org/b/Z0OR2

Steps to reproduce:

1. Go to a text box like a status update or post.

2. Click one of the text edit options.

3. It gets disabled when you start typing and the text is standard appearance.

4. Holding down to select a word doesn't select anything either.

What happened?

Text edit options revert to normal when text is typed. Holding down on text won't select it.

What did you expect to happen?

For the edit options to apply to the text like it does on desktop.

Any other relevant details:

Desktop site on mobile is also affected.

Instead of using the options you can type

[i]text that should be italic[/i]

or

[b]text that should be bold[/b]

Remember to either quote or @mention others, so they are notified of your reply

Sorry, this sounds very much like a broswer/os issue, and not something that we can control. Selection is handled by the browser with almost no control to us, and keeping blod/etc enabled after pressing it is mostly handled by the browser and otherwise controlled by the editor plugin that is not something we can change.

Maybe a solution could be to add a markdown cheatsheet button next to the editing options so people who run into this issue could know how get around it by using the LTT style of markdown.

Unfortunately bbcode support is deprecated, so it doesn't always work quite right and support might get dropped entirely at some point, so it's not something I would want to promote.
