NVMe enclosure, Inconsistent speeds

Hello,

 

Recently bought two NVMe enclosures USB 3.1 Gen 2 and I am using Lenovo Legion 7 USB C ports which are exactly the ports for those NVMes.

 

One time, the NVMe will go brr at 1002Mb/s read and 900mb/s write as shown by CrystalDiskMark, then I run it again, and it just goes 300mb/s read and write and I have no clue why that is happening.

 

NVMes don't go past 42c as they are using active cooled enclosure with a small fan.

 

Anyone knows what's up?

Is the faster run always first, or it's random? 


It can be indicator of bad USB connection, I had that with 2m USB C 10Gbps cable to my USB 10 Gbps HUB, on 1 netter cable, no problems. But the speeds were random 700-250MBps, not always 300MBps.
The funny thing was, I found one of the 4 ways that I can plug the USB C 2m cable worked with 10Gbps, so I just marked it and I'm using it till now.  It's USB C on both ends, and you can plug it either way on both, so you have 4 possibilities of lane path. One of them is just barely enough for me to use 10Gbps.

Try connecting the  USB enclosure to the back side USB, that are directly on motherboard. It's quite often to have problems, because bad quality front USB case cables.

But you are quite right first run usually is best, and if I try both SSDs at the same time then they both will be 300mb/s or one is faster one slower.

Fixed it, had to uninstall all USB devices and then restart. It's working perfect now.
